I just checked on the application tab and it seems that under the SAT scores section that the writing score in no longer showing. In addition, there is no option to add writing test scores even for pre 3/2016 tests.

Does this mean that the writing section score isn't going to be considered in the admissions process?

My son checked his earlier today and said the same thing. Writing and English together for the ACT.

He also noticed that it now states that the earliest anyone will be evaluated is August 15, 2016. Can anyone verify that? Are they staggering them?

Thanks!

I just checked and it seems that my Application also says that initial evaluation will be August 15th...

His concern was earlier his stated July 1, 2016. It changed sometime in the last couple days. He had his 4 wisdom teeth extracted and is home bound and looking at academies/colleges.

Anyone else have their portal date change? He attended SLE and passed his CFA in late May. It may to advantageous since his June 2016 scores were just sent from ACT. He is working on his nomination packets.

My portal date also changed to August 15th and I also attended SLE and passed the CFA.

Thanks! He will feel better about it. Gives him time to complete USNA, USAFA and ROTC apps.

I am in the same boat as your son!! Applying to USMA, USAFA, USNA (maybe), AROTC, AFROTC, and nominations!! Anyone with experience in going through all the processes have advice for those trying to do the same?

Word from Admissions is that the application will not open until August. However, in years past, they have opened sooner than they said they would.

Is anyone else having difficulty submitting their post March 2016 Reading/Writing SAT scores in the portal? The prompt asks for the 3 digit score but when submitting it errors and asks for a 2 digit score. Appreciate the feedback.

My son applied to USMA , USNA, and USAFA, as well as ROTC, and had success with all. I would be delighted to answer any questions you may have.

My son is at USMA now, going through Beast, but it was only a little more than a year ago that he decided to apply, and it was a whirlwind over the past year, with applications to each academy, each MOC, ROTC, interviews, CFA training, ACT exams, teacher evaluations, letters of recommendation, transcripts, school visits, and the list goes on.

He was offered appointment to USMA, USAFA, and wait listed at USNA, but was called by USNA literally two days before we left for R-DAY to determine if he wanted an appointment there. He didn't. What we learned is that there is a process, and that it can be mastered to an extent. Obviously, the applicant must have the substance, but part of this process is learning to maximize those numbers, as you add to the substance all along the way (increasing ACT scores, CFA scores, getting great teacher evaluations, etc.). It isn't "gaming" the system, but rather understanding how things work, and putting yourself in the most competitive position.

I will add also that this forum is a valuable resource, but it also includes some old, and otherwise bad information, along with the good. At WP, the best information comes during face to face contact with the RC's. But those opportunities are few.

It is interesting watching these threads for the 2021 class application cycle, as virtually every issue is one my son went through, and we had to troubleshoot. It is, I believe, a deliberate part of the process, which is not meant to be easy. It is an obstacle course, and not many have the skills or perseverance to get to the finish line. Keep working hard and push forward. In the end I can tell you, there are few things more exciting than seeing your child receive an appointment to a service accademy.

All help throughout this process will be highly appreciated! My family is not a military family and are inexperienced when it comes to college applications. If I have questions, it would be great to be able to come to someone that has been there done that!

Feel free to PM me. My son got a lot of help from a lot of good folks. I hope to return the favor.

Another thing I have learned, especially recently, the Academy is a huge and awesome family. Our experience so far has been mostly with USMA , but I'm certain it is the same at the others, and as you can see from the great folks on this board, rivalry exist between the schools for sure, but so does incredible mutual respect, admiration, and empathy. This does not happen so much at a regular college.

People went through everything you are going through during this application process, just as folks have gone through what my wife and I are going through with our son in Beast right now. It's all a challenge for sure.

Don't hesitate to send me questions, and I will tell you what I know, and if I don't know I will make something up. Lol.

I sure will! I have West Point and the Army as my #1 top priority, but can most definitely see myself at the others, which I believe is the same as your son. I am excited for this journey and can't wait to see where I will land, service academy or ROTC!

It is a technical issue on West Point's end. Hopefully they will get it sorted out soon.
