What do I do now

My pre candidate questionnaire was approved and was deemed competitive. They said to look out for new stuff in my email and such but nothing came yet. So besides the process of nominations and getting ready for the CFA, what do I do now?

I am applying this year, and the same thing is happening with me. I started researching last year's essay questions and with that preparing my essay. The questions usually don't change much at all as I have asked current cadets about their essay questions. If you want to be prepared, go online and start researching essay questions and emailing teachers for recommendations too.

Make a tracker for deadlines, and follow it. Study and work hard. Learn more about leadership in your ECs.

Yep, I'm okay for the recommendations as of now, I just have to make sure that they're done by the time I'm able to submit them. Also, does anyone know when the official application will open, like the parts where it asks for leadership roles and essays?

Study and take the ACT /SAT . Tremendous opportunity to your chances at admission.

Yep, I did that as well. I took the old SAT twice and got a high score on the second time I took it and I've been taking various subject tests since then. If I'm not happy with the last set I've taken, I'll take one last set in October

Teacher evaluations are different than letters of recommendation. Teachers should know to expect an email during summer and to respond to it. In my sons case, many of the teachers didn't even look at school email during summer, so he had to get their personal email and list that on the portal. Then call and remind the teachers. Trust me, most totally ignore anything related to school during the summer. That's not to say they won't want to help. It's just not something they are thinking about. So remind them.

Dino - if it is anything like last year, portals will open up in a staggered fashion in the order they were received. It looks like the first portals were opened on July 1st with a deadline of November 1st and will continue as such as the months roll by. It looks like you are on top of things. Push hard. Aim High and Good Luck to you.

How are they different? Is it just the way they're submitted or is it a completely different format from the typical rec. letter?

Teacher evaluations are different. The LORs are in addition to the teacher evaluation. They should be written by someone (other than a family member) that knows you well and can comment on your integrity, leadership, commitment etc. A coach, pastor, scout leader, employer etc. would be great resources for an LOR.

Okay, and we need 3 of those as well right?

Three teacher evaluations from junior or senior year teachers (mandatory). Up to three letters of recommendation from others (highly encouraged)

They are like an online survey that the teachers do, and then I believe have opportunity to make other comments. It is submitted electronically. Teaher assesses student based on a series of questions, and a rating system.

So I have 2 already set up now, one from my school fencing coach and one from my private one. Can the third one be a teacher that knows me well who's different from the other 3 Evals.?

Dino, USAFA requires three teacher evaluations that will be done online via an email address you supply on your portal. They are as follows: 1) your school counselor; 2) your junior or senior high school Math teacher; 3) your junior or senior English teacher. Once you enter their emails, they will receive a link from USAFA for them to fill out your evaluation. Those are required.

You also have the opportunity to send in three more LORs from people who know you well. They can be teachers, pastors, coaches etc., but should not be the same people as above and they cannot be related to you. They should write more about your leadership, integrity, honor, perhaps why they think you would be a good choice for the Academy etc. and should focus on things that the above teachers do not. The LORs are not required, but are recommended. Hope that clears everything up.
