Hi All!

2021 hopeful. I was just wondering what parts of the application have to be finished for the Board to review your application for the possibility of receiving an LoA. Would everything have to be complete or could I be missing the Letter of Recommendations?

Thanks!

Unless you are a recruited athlete, or have some other well-defined hook, your chances of receiving that LOA is are not especially high. Your application would have to be complete to be considered.

Remember (and read the 3000 other posts about LOA's here), the LOA is the exception, not the rule. No one will care on I-Day if you received an LOA or not.

Good luck

My daughter had received her LOA with the medical clearance and nomination pending.

My son got his LOA after his Congressional nomination in Dec. Don't worry about LOA, just do your best;)

My son got his LOA on his 18th birthday, months before his nom. His twin brother with identical stats, did not.

Your application package doesn't need to be any where near complete to receive an LOA. The LOA (should you get one) actually provides the list of all the items that need to be completed successfully to get an appointment. My DD rec'd an LOA to both USNA and USAFA and all she had accomplished at that point was completing the on-line application. And though she was recruited for 2 sports, neither coach felt the need to 'cash in' a favor to get her an appointment. (If your package was complete - their would be no need for the LOA as they would simply offer an Appointment)

I agree that LOA's are not common, and it is a complete waste of energy to spend cycles expecting/hoping for one.

My son applied to USMA, USAFA and USNA , got appointments to USMA (he accepted and is CBT right now), and USAFA , and got a call a week before I-day off the wait list at USNA, but but never got an LOA at any of them. And his appointment to usma was in January. That puts a perspective on how important they are.
