Hi there - I'm new to the forum and to Service Academy world.
My DS is in high school and very interested in USMMA. (engineering)
He also is intrigued by the possible opportunity to be in the Coast Guard upon graduation from King's Point.
Because I'm new to this, I'm reading everything I can, especially on this wonderful forum which is giving me an amazing education.
In everything I've read about KP grads in the CG it seems that Inspections would be probably landing spot.
This question is probably silly, but what type of work would he be doing as part of Inspections?
Would he be using the engine license he would procure at USMMA?
Thanks for any information.

No, in the event of commissioning as an ensign in the USCG, the license would itself be completely worthless. Of course, the knowledge behind that license would be useful especially in inspections.

That leads me to ask under what type of active duty would a USMMA grad use his or her license.

Are you asking about using your engineering degree or engineering license?

Please call this alumni who would be happy to give you the facts about a coast guard career for marine engineers.
