Last phone call before we parents head to Annapolis for parent weekend. My Mid continued to be upbeat. He gave us a very mixed list of items he wants us to bring.
1. Jellybeans
2. His guitar
3. His mini cactus plant that he has had in his room at home for a long time. Apparently they get to have one potted plant. How I'm getting that from Texas to Annapolis I am not sure yet.
4. His headphones
5. A new C.D. he ordered right before he left so he can listen to it in the hotel room

So current and past parents, what did your Mid ask for?

A tri-tip sandwich from the local deli. Not sure how good it's going to be after a transcontinental flight, but his wish is our command.

Brawny please let us know what TSA says when you arrive with a cactus to the security check point! Brewer, have them deconstruct it so it won't get soggy. Assemble and the nuke it. Dang, now I want a tri tip sandwich, miss those things. Glad to hear they are all doing well. Just a few more days. Heck next week they will even get their computers set up and have email shortly. Enjoy parents weekend.

My DS asked for a massage (never had one before) and a cream cheese Danish. He said not to bring the Wii and his Mac book Air as planned.

Email is probably going to be their midnumber@usna.edu
Example: m20_ _ _ _@usna.edu

It's probably already set up.

School email accounts as m20xxxx@usna.edu have been set up and loaded onto DoD's network. IMHO, do not send personal emails to their school email addresses as they are their primary tool to receive official tasking emails from their Company, Battlion, Regiment and entire Brigade. Your emails will become the spam in their accounts! :D

Is the mid # the same as alpha #?
Yes. If you don't have it, but have connected with the sponsor of your mid, ask the sponsor the six-digit 20xxxx number on the paper they picked up yesterday with their sponsor ID in Alumni Hall. Otherwise, you can ask your mid when they are on Liberty on Friday.

BTW, their mailbox number after PS will be a different number.

@Brawny77, could you take it out of the pot and put it in a ziplock bag with the soil? It is a "mini" cactus, correct? ;)

A double cheeseburger with grilled onions and a chocolate shake from In N Out. Seriously considered bringing hamburgers, but didn't. It has become our tradition to head straight to In N Out after we pick him up from the airport. Last PPW DS asked us to take him to Target where he stocked up on school supplies and Tide Bleach Pens ... had fun counting all the Plebes at Target while shopping and meeting other 2019 Plebe Parents.

Congrats 2020 parents, have a great weekend with your newly minted Plebes! They look awesome in their Summer Whites.

Last year DD wanted a short nap in the hotel room and preferred most meals as take out brought back to the room so she didn't have to go out in uniform as much. Oh, and as THS said, we made the Target run for Tide pens, supplies and snacks with countless other Plebes and their families.

2020 parents, your Plebe will be nervous about getting back to the Yard on time, so don't be surprised if they want to go back early. We got back ours back early and enjoyed some time strolling around the Yard - it's beautiful on a summer night.

You can also go into the Navy Exchange (military department store) across the Severn River Naval Academy bridge. No sales tax, military pricing. No ID required to access store, as it is outside Naval Support Activity access gate. Mid shows ID at purchase point as authorized buyer. NEX has full range of supplies.
Subway and Panda in food court.
Commissary (grocery store) is adjacent.

693 Kinkaid Rd., Annapolis.

Mid Store will also have full range of supplies at military pricing and no tax. Plebe will be able to hit that as needed once PS ends.

Actually, mine only said, "I'm probably going to sleep the first few hours, but bring the Playstation."

Naval Exchange and commissary is a great idea. Wish we had known about it for our PPW. DD just wanted to sleep and shower forever then hang out at the house with her friends from high school. Her mother did make an appointment for hair, nails and pedicure so you might want to think about that for your daughters. They did make her get back in whites to walk around town. Traffic to gate one is a nightmare at report time. You will see Plebes bailing from cars and running. Getting there early could be a good idea. Listen for the Christmas music out of Bancroft at the end of PPW.
