So parents weekend was great. Some much needed Cheeseburgers, naps in the hotel room, movies and music for DS.
But one thing he said was an interesting inside observation. He said "75% of the time I feel like I'm in a meatgrinder and 25% of the time I feel like a rockstar".

My DS' quote- "There is always someone watching you, always. It is like living in a zoo."
He had some very funny stories and the detailers sounded great. He also said it really sucked for the most part, and he is looking forward to the ac year starting. He did not heed the advice to run, and it bit him in the butt. He passed the PRT but closer than he would have liked. It was also humorous to watch my always food messy kid be so particular and neat.

My wife spent most of the weekend laughing at how worried DS was about soiling his uniform. Her comment was "six weeks ago you had to argue with him to wear pants".

Fish bowl is the common term. It really hits home when you are swimming in Lejeune and the tourists are up top looking through the glass at you on their tour It's honestly exactly like a fish bowl, except you are the gold fish, in khakis, swimming for 40 minutes and trying not to drown.

There are many more females than when I was there. I used to get stopped walking down Stribling and often heared 'look there is a girl one! Let's get her picture!' Hopefully with the females making up more of the Brigade This novelty has worn off.

Glad they all made it and you had a good weekend!

It seemed to me that there were quite a few women plebes. Enough to where it wasn't a rare sight.

Glad to hear it! I think the numbers are over double from when I was there.

There are scientific studies that show the percentage where the eye stops noticing "which of these is different" in a crowd setting. I think it's around 22%, but I'd have to research it. I was briefed on it when I arrived at USNA for duty, when it was still around 17%.

Please "don't feed the MIDN." Exactly as NavyHoops said....felt like you were being watched in Lejune for swimming and wrestling. On the bright side, at least it is only for 30 minutes in khakis now (you get 10 less minutes of being watched).

Most ever - more than 25% of the class.

My Plebe - "there are eyes and ears everywhere."

Yes. My DS definitely had no interest in speaking freely while in Naptown so we headed to DC to visit our old neighborhood and see old friends.

As I have said before DD made the mistake of answering Chinese Tourist question in Chinese. Could not get away from the camera and had to take photo with the whole group (babies and all). Annapolis loves the tourist draw during PPW. Downtown they are rockstars. Those Whites do look good. Good luck to all. Met DD on Stribling and small tourist said "look Dad a girl one".

DS said he has his picture taken all the time. I think he even said they were told they were expected to accommodate tourists' requests for pictures.

Cue "Naptown Funk" video.

I loved "Naptown Funk" DD hated it. Then again I like Elvis, Clapton, Beatles and Rod Stewart. Must be a generation thing.

While waiting for a flight at Dallas/FW my brother saw a MIDN and struck up a conversation with him - he sent me a picture of him and the MIDN. I thought it was weird that a MIDN would be willing to take a picture with a complete stranger ... now it makes sense!

The Mids I saw around town were acting like perfect gentlemen and women. However, I did see one Mid back on campus having a conversation with a Civ that dropped the F-bomb at least 4 times while loudly bragging about himself. My son turned to me, said nothing, but his eyes were big as saucers. I'm sure he was thinking - Boy I hope that jerk gets caught. You'd think that 6 weeks of plebe summer would've reigned that kid in a bit

While changing into PT gear in the hotel, I noticed my DS was hanging/clipping his pants upside down rather than folding them over the coat hanger. I asked him if he got tired of having to keep his uniform so perfect. And he said, "No, I love this uniform. When we tried it on the day before the baseball game, I got chills, because this is the uniform I've always imagined myself wearing. And wearing is always special to me."
