Hi guys! I'm new to this forum but just have a question. I am really interested in being an intelligence officer ( I'm a junior in college now and will be graduating in a little more than a year. May 2018). I read online that if you do any kind of ROTC you cant go into intel and the only way you can be an intel officer is through OCS, is that true? Is there NO way I can do rotc and do intel after graduation?
I also heard that ROTC people get first pick on commissions and stuff before OCS. Is that true?
At my school they only have ROTC army but a friend of mine that goes to a different school said that if you don't sign a contract during rotc you can go into another branch and that you arent stuck with the rotc you were in. Is that true?

You're too late for Navy ROTC as a junior. You're not going to commission into the Navy doing Army ROTC. If you are interested in pursuing a Navy commission, contact an officer recruiter and talk to them about OCS. Junior year is the time to start that conversation.

Is it to late for all ROTC ? I contacted a officer recruiter about it and they seemed really excited because of my academic record and other stuff but he said I'd have to take the asvab to see what id be the best fit for, is this normal? I thought only enlisted did advab?

Be careful next they will tell you enlisting and signing up for a nuclear power rating will help you get into OCS. Make sure you are speaking with an officer recruiter, not enlisted.

My friend said his other cadets in the army ROTC and at their senior year were contacted by marine recruiters asking them to join the marines so you don't think that could happen with Navy?

If you have less than one year before graduation as you mention above, then yes, it is too late for ROTC with any branch. The ASVAB is for individuals seeking to enlist. Sounds like this person may not be an officer recruiter. I'd make some additional phone calls if I was you.

You will not commission into the Navy doing Army or Air Force ROTC. If you have less than a year til graduation then it is too late for any ROTC. Look into OCS.

He's probably talking about enlisting.

It was an officer recruiter. I've read on a few forums that some officers had to also take the asvab but only a few of them. The recruiter said he just wanted to see my strengths and weaknesses because I am a science major and even thought that qualifies for Intel I think they just want to make sure that that'll be a good option. I am a little confused though cause he said the asvab was just a formality and wouldn't matter much and it's just for them to see where I am. But I'm 100% sure it was an officer recruiter.

Sorry I meant to put a little over a year. 1.5 years ( may 2018) I talked to some people who are already in and they said they knew some people that took the asvab but it was just a formality ( I think) he's suppose to call me again tomorrow. Do you think I ask ask about the asvab and ask why I have to take it ?

A friend of mine in ROTC so I'm sure it's different but he contracted this year ( graduates in 2018) and did all this training like basic and advanced camp and is being offered a guarantee commission when he graduates. Would It be possible for me to do any training or get some military experience before I graduate if I do OCS?

No he said it was marine officer recruiters that contacted them for commissions into the marines.

That's not a thing. If it was in reference to a service academy, then I would tell you there are some very very limited opportunities for that.

On the Marine side, you can look at PLC. On the Navy side, NUPOC, but that will steer you towards nuclear power vice Intel. I'd recommend you just finish strong academically, get in shape, and prepare to start an OCS application with an officer recruiter.

This might sound stupid but NUPOC is like how to power different ships and stuff right? Do I have to wait till I already have a degree to start working on my application? Because maybe I misunderstood but when I called the navy recruiter he kind of sounded like he wanted to get things rolling now and just some preliminary stuff out of the way to get me ready for OCS

Well if you have two academic years left until graduation, you could still pursue AROTC at your school. You'd have to contact them ASAP though, as the school year is starting......However, that will only result in a commission in the Army.

It's unusual for a Navy officer recruiter to have a candidate take the ASVAB. OCS applicants take the OAR. You might want to ask about that.

Typically, Navy officer recruiters will tell you that you can start The OCS conversation at some point during your junior year. When you actually start the application...that's over to them.

NUPOC is a program you do while you're in school, typically junior and senior year. The Navy has recruiters who work specifically with the NUPOC program. Do some research on it if you'd like to learn more.

This has become my favorite answer for this type question today. What do you think?
