Hello,
Can someone please tell me when exactly you are supposed to take the CFA? I am a junior right now so it's not urgent or anything, but I can't seem to get a straight answer anywhere. My parents were under the impression that you take it early in the spring semester of junior year, but on the SLE brochure it says they take a "Practice CFA" during the experience, implying that the real CFA is taken after SLE takes place.
Thanks

The CFA is part of your application. It must be completed before you can be considered for admission by the Admissions Committee. The website and info from 1337 gives the info on who can administer it. The application window for a current Junior in high school (Fall 2016) should begin July/August of 2017. I recommend applying for SLE for the summer between Jr./Sr. year of HS. SLE for you would be in (June/July 2017). The SLE application opens this winter (possibly Jan. 2017), but keep checking the Admissions website for updates.

Good morning BThomas, I have 1 question, I will apreciatte if you can help me with this ones:
1-my DD High School is a very competitive one all honor classes and dual College enrollment, so students pretty much cannot miss a day of class, at least they are sick (and bring a Doctor excuse) for the attendance office. So I'm worry, because she is looking forward to the SLE next year (since she was in 6th grade) she is a Junior now, but, I was looking at previous summer dates and some where even in late May, and her last day in Junior year and final exams are on Friday June 9 2017, so if the upcoming dates for 2017 are before this day, she will not be able to attend (if she get selected), and that is something I hope does not happen, she is counting days to apply, she told me new dates will come around late dec or January. Question is: if she get selected and not be able to attend, is this going to count against her in the selection process?, or she even not apply for the SLE because the days are when she has still classes (hope not), did she will be in disadvantage?, sorry for this long post, but she read everywhere and did not find an answer about this, so maybe be you can clarify this. Thank you VERY much, excuse my grammar, english is not my main language.

I am not BThomas, however, seeing as BThomas hasn't logged on since the day he created his account, there's a good chance he will never answer your question. So, I will answer it.

There is no disadvantage in the USMA selection process to not attending SLE. There is no disadvantage in the USMA selection process to not applying to SLE.

There is however an advantage in the USMA selection process to attending Girls State, so it may behoove your daughter to looking into applying to that program. It is just a 1 week program, and I have heard it really helps in the selection process.

If she has to choose between attending Girls State and attending SLE, I would recommend her to attend Girls State as it improves her chances of getting into USMA while SLE does not.

This should help. The American Legion conducts a leadership program that is recognized by the service academies for potential leadership. This program will help with a applicants WCS. However, it does not replace athletics. An applicant should be involved in an organized sports program at school or club level. Team sports are the best. WP does seeks those who are well rounded in academics, athletics and leadership.
