AFROTC Sticky Situation

I'm an AS400 this year who was set to graduate this spring and I am under a 2.5 retroactive scholarship worth about $20,000 and have made roughly $7000 in stipends. When filling out my form 53 I took my advisor's advice and took him at his word when he said my plan was ok to graduate on time. Come to now find out that I need to take 2 additional writing intensive classes to graduate and meet my DOC. The problem that I then face is my course load, I'm currently taking 20 credits now and am slated to take 17 next semester. I can handle the 20 credits but with the two additional credits it really puts me over the limit. I was wondering if anyone had any advice/thoughts/or experiences with moving a date of commission or willfully giving up a scholarship? I plan on talking to cadre tomorrow as this problem is ongoing.

Had a cadet with a similar situation of needing to take two additional classes, however these were retakes for failures/receiving a CE. In any event, you need to graduate and commission by the end of the fiscal year. So this individual has until 1 Oct of this year...not enough time for a full semester (fall) but adequate time for summer courses... This individual retook over summer, when the rest of us commissioned. They commissioned no prob afterward.
#1 talk to cadre stat. #2 look at winter, spring, &/or summer...satellite, online, etc.

Edit: hope that made sense. The individual took a summer course right away that only lasted 4 weeks. Graduated/commissioned/passed QFR no prob.

I did some reading in the AFIs and that looks like the option I'll take. The only other one is to surrender the scholarship somehow but that can lead to disenrollment. Paying back the scholarship isn't the issue, it's staying in ROTC that I care about.

Sounds like you've got it figured out then:) maybe opt to take an online class at another uni simultaneously too if you don't want to stretch to shmmer.

I'll need to stretch it to summer as I'm already taking 20 this semester (which I'll be able to handle) and 17 next semester. If I need to take the two classes online at another university I'll do that too. Dang scholarships and ROTC credits really mess with the schedule....8 of my credits every semester are in relation to ROTC.

It's funny how many different uni's account for ROTC credits... For ex, my uni as a x-town doesn't count any...but the host uni counts 1 for gmc, 3 for poc. Other uni's I know have 1 credit for PT, 1 for LLAB, and 3 for as class totaling 5, where the unit cap is...16 or 18..

We have: 3=AS Class, 1=PT, 1=LLAB, and for my nontech scholarship LANG=3. Grand total of 8 ROTC related credits that makes it tough to fit everything in. I'll have somewhere near 165 credits when I graduate! Talked to cadre and it sounds like it isn't the worst deal in the world in that a form doesn't have to go to HQ. There would just be a mock commissioning with the others and a real swearing in once I complete the classes in the summer.

Sounds like the same exact situation we had here, and I'm sure plenty more all over...glad it worked out for you. Now it's up to you to graduate! No luck needed, git-Er-done bud.
