Any guess where the AD cutoff will be for AROTC AD this year? What was it last year? Thanks.

I think I read on a Reddit thread that it was around 42 last year.

One of my son's roommates had a number in the upper 40's and was forced into the Reserves. However, another young lad in their unit had a number in the low 40's and not only went AD but received his 1st choice in branch assignment as well which was Military Intelligence (Branch Detail Infantry). So the answer is...it all depends

I can't remember Sheriff3 but if your DS is a rising MSIV, there's not a whole lot he can do at this point. Enjoy the ride!

The past few months our son's desires have vacillated between AD and Reserves. Lately, his prayers (and ours) have been something like this: Lord if AD is Your Will, let me score one higher than the cut-off. If it's Reserves, let me be one under.

Any suggestions on a good source/review of how the AD OML works? How points are earned by students? When I commissioned (back in '89) we had zero insight into this process - it was just do good on the APFT, get a 4 or 5 at Advanced Camp, get a good PMS recommendation and get good grades. I'm interested in peeking behind the curtain and understanding the system. Thanks!

This is the model from FY2016:

It will all come down to the number of 2nd LTs the Army feels it needs from this class to meet their mission. The AD cutoff is just the OMS number of the last selected cadet from the OML, the more they take the lower the number is. I saw something last year that listed the number of AD 2nd LTs they wanted for the next 3 years, the number was close to the same for each year (Of course that can always change from year to year).

Since the OML seems to be working the same this year as last, I would assume the numbers will be close to last year. Again it depends on the OMS scores of those selected, if the top 2700 cadets on the AD OML are all high achievers with high OMS score then the cutoff number will look higher. It's really hard to guess from year to year, but my assumption is that anyone in the 40's will be on the bubble.

I just noticed looking at the FY2016 Model that the Cum. GPA is now minus the ROTC GPA, Is that new for last year? My younger son commissioned in 2015 under the old OML system and the GPA included all classes, although they did have a section where they broke out just the ROTC GPA, but the overall GPA included ROTC. I guess it works out in the end since it probably effects most all the cadets the same.

Yeah, they started this last year.

Seems like last year just over 3500 got AD.
That was down about 300 from the previous year or two.
But the number of commissioning cadets was lower also.

I think those numbers are a bit high.

For the class of 2015 there were 2893 cadets selected for Active Duty.

SMC graduates with PMS recommendation get AD if they want it regardless of OML.
I think that if a graduate is too low they would one of those that is not recommended.
I spoke with the PMS at the SMC my son attends regarding this two weeks ago.
He indicated they tend to get rid of those guys ( and gals) before it comes down to having to not recommend.
But every year there are a few that hang on and do not get recommended.
Also some "choose" NG/AR when it becomes clear they will not be recommended.
That being said last year 85ish Cadets below the line got AD on the strength of the PMS recommendation.
