I am a junior in high school and am going to apply to the naval academy in April. I'm going to take the SAT on October the 1st and will retake it if necessary. I have taken Ap Euro and Ap Physics in high school, I'm currently taking AP us history and will take about 3 to 5 AP classes next year as a Senior. My GPA is a 10.8 on a 12 scale which is a 3.9 on 4.0 scale. I also am taking Spanish 3 and have taking biology, chemistry, geometetry and algebra honors, algebra 2 and I'm taking Precalc currently. For extracurricular activities I run cross country and track and field. I'm going to join my schools young Republican club and I applied for the National Academic Honor Society. I have done charity work through United Way and the Salvation Army. I also have an academic letter as well as a varsity letter for Cross Country. I have had a leadership role on my Cross country and have attended leadership camps. Looking at the CFA I can run a 5:13 mile, my shuttle run is around 10 seconds last time I checked, and crunches/sit ups I can about 100 in 2 minutes. Pull-ups and Pushup are what I need to improve on. Please evaluation this and give me any advice or recommendations, thanks.

It looks like you are on track to have a strong application. Make sure you have some specific leadership positions like captain of track or cc and other EAs. Consider attending Boys/Girls State between your junior and senior year of High School. It is looked on very favorably by the SAs.

If you have the opportunity, I believe working for the Representative (who nominated them) over a summer helped my oldest be accepted.

What is Boys/Girls state?
Also should I ask for a nomination and fill out a preliminary application even though it's September of my junior year

Some points:
  • You can be "sponsored" by your own High School. Some schools may not even know about the program. Others hold it as a big deal.
  • If you are not sponsored you might also be able to get sponsored by the local American Legion branch. Contact them directly for more info.
  • Search this forum for lots more info on the topic. I know you are new, but as a candidate for the academy, you should learn to research as much basic info on your own.
Good luck to you!

Make sure you apply for USNA Summer Seminar in January! This will actually start your application to USNA.

OP, if you haven't done this already, read every part of USNA.edu, every drop down, every link. If your goal is to be commissioned as a Navy or Marine Corps officer, you should also be exploring NROTC, to determine which path is right for you, and to know what your options are.

You can search on "chance me" or "stats" threads, to get a feel for what some candidates offer, but there are so many other factors that affect the process, look at those stats with a balanced eye and don't drive yourself crazy over it.

To the OP...
It is highly recommended that you change your user handle if it contains your name. If you are fortunate enough to become a plebe someday, you do NOT want your USNA detailers to be in possession of your past posts as a high school student.

If you wish to change your username, post a request on this thread and the Administrator should contact you privately to do this.
