When the graduate this year, the new Blues or the old Greens?

How about the Cadet Candidates at USMAPS, Blue or Green?

I am not graduating, in fact I am still a 10th grader, but I hope for the sake of the Cadets they don't use the new ones.

the new uniforms are absolutely terrible. they look like bad navy costumes. i really hope they go back to the green ones, those were so badass.

I like the new (really the original) look, I too didn't like the mint green shirts. Not that it matters because as a former Marine, there really is only one uniform

My son likes the new uniform and is wondering if that's what they'll get at USMAPS. I guess he'll get to ask his MALO on Wednesday while there for an overnight visit.

The Firsties are probably in the process now of getting their uniforms. On graduation day they graduate in cadet dress grays then go change for their commissioning - (usually held under a tree somewhere).

They probably will all be buying the ASU's. I can't imagine they would put money into the Army greens as the ASU's are being phased in.

I really don't like the new Navy uniforms (with the exception of the new officer jacket). I haven't seen the grey uniform though, are we sure that was the final product. I have seen the brown and black on at the Pentagon....looks terrible.

As far as the Army uniform is concerned, I think it looks fine. I don't think people will mistake if you Air Force, although people mistake Coast Guard for Air Force all the time, despite the presence of anchors (which you don't typically see on a plane).

I asked our firstie son which uniform will be worn for commissioning after graduation this May.

He said it would be the blue uniform.

Aside from their likes or dislikes of the new uniform, most of the cadets are happy they get to buy the blue uniforms for graduation. They didn't want to order the green in May and then have to pay again for the blue uniforms.

Totally understand that. I understand the history of the West Point uniform, but I never understood why the Air Force Academy uniforms was different from the real USAF uniforms. That's a lot of wasted money.

Is the Oath not given during the Graduation ceremony at USMA? It is (was?) at USNA.

Maybe she means pinning? CGA had the commissioning during the graduation ceremony....raise your right hand etc....

Ask Aspen. I know they put on their *real* Army uniforms and get their 2 LT bars. I think they say an Oath then.

I may not have understood him correctly, but on my last tour up at USMA my cadet tour guide said the starting with the class of 2013 the classic grey parade uniforms will be black (so much for long grey line?). I hope this is not true, but if the pull it off right it could look pretty slick

I think u misunderstood. When I was touring the uniform factory last month, they were busy making the uniforms for 2013, which are exactly like the ones West Point cadets have worn for years.

good, maybe when he said this is the last time you will see the firsties wearing grey he was actually reffering to those particular senior who will commison on never wear cadet grey again

I will be flying to New York tomorrow and staying in USMA for the overnight visit Thursday-Friday. I'll ask someone while I'm there.

While it doesn't matter now that Aspen has cleared up the issue. I'm just going to reiterate her posting by saying that I was talking to my buddy at USMA who confirmed about a week or so ago that the firsties in fact will be wearing the ASUs. As for USMA discontinuing the Grey blouse/pants/uniform, is simply ludicrous and I along with everyone in America would be somewhat sad and disheartened the say USMA got rid of the traditional grey uniform. After all what would the "Long Grey Line" be without grey uniforms?

Maybe he meant the jackets that are worn with "as for class" uniforms. They just went from grey to black, which is the same as officers use. I think that can end up saving money when you graduate.
