FY17 timeline shows that today is the day for component release. Has anyone heard? Any other dates mentioned?

I'll answer my own post. Son just called. He got active duty. So parents of MSIVs, brace yourselves. It's about to get real.

Congratulations to your son. Over one hurdle, now the wait for Branches.

DS, active duty! I asked how he felt about it " relieved and nervous". Needs to list branch and duty station preference but 10/03. Best of luck to you all. No matter what component you get thank you all for serving in the finest army in the world.

I'm going to guess the Army realizes they may be short of officers in the future since one of the cadets at my son's school requested NG and got Active Duty. I'm absolutely sure that has happened before but I haven't seen it since my kids were in the ROTC pool (2010-2015)

As Sheriff3 posted, it looks like the total number selected for AD is in line with last year and with the mission the Army had for this year, it doesn't seem like they took more then they intended to fill a shortage. The cadet that requested NG but was given AD was most likely above the cutoff and was needed to meet the AD Mission.

I would imagine that the lower cutoff this year has more to do with the overall number of cadets and the number that either chose up front NG/Reserve or requested it when they filled out their component choices. The cutoff number is truly a floating number that changes every year. If a class is full of high achievers with high OMS scores the cutoff will be higher, if the class has lower OMS scores then the cutoff will be lower. I'm sure with the new OMS scoring system it will probably take a couple years to settle into a pattern, unless of course they change the whole thing again.

I've never seen this question asked before so I will throw it out there... If one is selected AD and wanted NG could they switch if the found a corresponding NG cadet that wanted AD? Just curious, my guess is no.
