Injury impact on CFA

My DS was scheduled to take CFA next week, but sprained his ankle yesterday. The sprain is a Grade 2 and he is in a boot for four weeks with estimate of two months for recovery. The closeout for his USAFA package is 12 Nov, so it's improbable he will be able to do the running portions to meet the dates. Has anyone had a similar issue and if so were they given an extension. We haven't contacted the USAFA yet, just wondering if anyone on forum had a similar issue.

You should definitely check with the Academy, but when we went through it for USNA last year, our understanding was that it is what it is. If the candidate can't do it, they can't do it.

This is exactly why they repeatedly and emphatically encourage candidates to do the CFA early; even if at least to get a minimally qualifying score in, and then maybe take it again later. My son made a similar mistake last year. he trained all summer, and got himself into great shape, but he wanted to push a bit farther so he could get a perfect score. He was working on the shuttle run and needed about 5 more feet for the max on the BB throw. Unfortunately, he injured his shoulder and clavicle in soccer, and was unable to do the CFA, or even train. Ultimately he did take it before the deadline, but he still wasn't fully recovered and he was in pain; particularly with the pull-ups, push-ups, and BB throw. he got a very good score, maxing most, so all ended well, but that is just the way it goes.

I think it is a set deadline, without exceptions, but it may be different for each academy. My son was doing it for USMA, USAFA, and USNA.

Finally, after getting an extension for a severe ankle sprain DS finished CFA and his package for USAFA. He did pretty good.

Bball throw 80'
Shuttle run 7.9
Pull ups 18
Push ups 75
Sit ups 73
Run 6:45

Now it's just sit and wait time!

Just signed up and reading as much as I can for my son applying to USAFA.
My son still needs to take CFA. It is a good thing you didn't take advice as fact about the deadline. So my question for this site is "how accurate are the responses in this forum"? Also Moezam from my research those are very good scores.

Responses are accurate on this forum. If someone is off track, they will quickly get corrected. If someone continues to pass bad info, it is dealt with. Although the application process is very similiar among the SAs, there are nuances. I am surprised they gave an extension on the CFA, but don't believe that will happen with every case. Take the deadlines as hard and fast rules. It's part of the weeding out process.

Thanks for the reply NavyHoops. Looks like a great forum for info! Sorry to hijack Moezams post.
