MARSOT Screener

Is MARSOT and any other screeners open to youngsters? Wondering what to expect for summer block next year.

When in doubt, rely on USNA.edu nooks and crannies to hold info.

Posted below, you will find the link to the 2016 Summer Training page, with enough links to amuse for hours. It takes a lot to manage 3 classes' worth of mids though dozens of mandatory and voluntary blocks.

If military custom holds true, 2017 will look essentially the same, with adjusted dates and minor tweaks. There are occasionally big shifts in a type of training from one class to another. Your mid will get emails and briefs, and get plenty of gouge from experienced upperclass.

As always, just because something was true this year, does not mean it will be true next year.

If the answer to your question is anywhere, it is probably buried here.

Most likely internship for his major for one block, and PROTRAMID for another. If he prefers West Coast over East Coast for those four weeks of Surface, Aviation, Submarine and Marine Corps training, he will likely do that during 3rd block.

My son was at the MARSOT screener. He said it was tough, but not compared to the IST screener, which he had finished a couple weeks prior. I'm thinking all the PT for IST had him well prepared. He was thrilled to make IST.

Infantry Skills Team - it's all new to me too! It's an extra curricular military skills team that competes against other NROTC, Service academy and even foreign military teams. They compete in obstacle courses, shooting and tactical skills. The big competition against Army is called Sandhurst hosted by Westpoint. I'm not sure how DS got involved, and didn't even know what it was. I just received a lot of excited text messages about how cool the guys were on the team. He now calls them "the boys" - which makes me wonder if there are girls on the team. hmmm. Anyone?

I believe Sandhurst teams require a female or two on the team, so guessing they either go recruit some for competitions or have a few on the team.

Yes. My mid was also there. Said it was tough, but he thinks he did well. He also said they don't find out results until March 2017.

That's what mine told me too, but some upperclassmen told him informally they thought he "crushed it". Pretty sure that's good. :)

If its like things in the past its because they do another one later in the year and need those stats to rack and stack everyone. It also comes purely down to numbers. Summer training billets for things like Air Assault, Dive, Jump schools can fluctuate widely for summer training. I remember we only had Dive and Jump available 2 of the 4 years I was there. Mini-BUDS they cut the numbers in 1/2 for my class. Its a huge accomplishment to complete these screeners and they should be proud regardless of where they lead to. Hopefully its leads to some fun training experiences.
