My son did not perform as well on the PFE as he would have liked. He plays football and every week we are battling a new minor injury that is keeping him from repeating the test and bringing up the score. His current score is just outside the C range. My question is should we just submit the current score? How much weight is given to the score? All other aspects of his application are strong. He is trying for the early action deadline. Looking for suggestions

Sorry to read on injury and PFE.
All parts of the application are important.
A C grade would be just below average for last year's EA. Over the past few years the PFE numbers for EA have been getting higher.
If you look at it from an Admission Officer's point of view he is trying to work out how to pick from identical looking candidates. So another candidate with a higher score may be enough to make a difference in your DS not making it. Your DS' PFE would not reflect his true ability and this falls back under the guidance of is the strongest application being submitted for EA? Others have the same question around academics.
If he is being recruited by a coach or has a unique skill/experience/background/very top academics the lower PFE may not be as important.
It is obvious that some with lower than average EA PFE scores got in but I don't think anyone but admissions could explain what they were selected on.
At end of day, your DS must decide how he wants to play it.

My DD has been told to make sure ahe submits the best possible application even if that means regular decision. Her scores were a little low on the SAT so we're holding off until she gets a better score. We we're also hoping for early decision but it's not worth risking it.

Where can we see the scoring grade (A, B, C, etc)? My son scored 222 points on his test.

In the downloadable section in the application the scale is in the packet you give the person administering the test. We got rid of ours but I think that is in the C range. Don't quote me. My son was a little under that and I know it was a C

The score of 222 is a B according to the PFE instruction manual.

Thanks. I checked again, it was a 232, but still a B regardless.
