Hi all, didn't know where to post this, so I put it here. I was hoping I could get a straight answer before bringing this to my coc. I'm a prior enlisted navy person, who has commissioned into the army via ROTC back in April.

I'm wanting to put in an interservice transfer to the navy, but would like to know from anyone on here as to how the process actually works? I know people have done it out of the service academies upon graduation, but is it different for ROTC grads, and who should i bring this too in order to get things started? S1, BC or who?

Also, what are the chances of this actually getting approved? The reg that I read said all service obligations have to be completed first, but yet poeople from acadiems have done transfers upon graduation. Also, would me being prior navy possibly help at all. I've already completed a combat arms bolc if that means anything. All feedback is welcomed, thank you.

Just to clarify, cross-commissioning at the Service Academies is decided several months prior to graduation, after a formal request process, and with the approvals of both losing and gaining services. It's not that common, but it does happen. They commission into the other service on graduation day. It's not that hard to presto-change-o someone before post-commissioning training starts. That's when the additional investment by your service makes it more difficult to switch. The Service wants something, your time, in return for that training.

The classic place for you to start is research Army regulations and current policy. I know a USNA grad who didn't make it through SEAL training, and was able to transfer to the Army and pursue special operations there. I don't know what his timetable was, in terms of years in the Navy. As always, it will come down to "needs of the (Service)," and those change regularly. What may be approved this year, may not in 6 months.

I hope you are clear on your reasons, and in the meantime, performing superbly as an Army officer. There would be no reason for the Navy to take an Army officer who didn't have superb recommendations from his or her chain of command.

Edit: I just googled "Army Regulations inter-service transfer" and came up with current references. You're a JO, so you have all the tools to do the staff work and legwork required. If you are eligible, then it's a matter of building your package per format and working with chain of command. You will also want to research the Navy refs to understand the incoming criteria.

Not likely possible until you have completed your service obligation. Here are some references, in no particular order, you can check on the APD website.

AR140-10 ASSIGNMENTS, ATTACHMENTS, DETAILS, AND TRANSFERS
AR614-120 INTER-SERVICE TRANSFER OF ARMY COMMISSIONED OFFICERS ON THE ACTIVE DUTY LIST
AR614-100 OFFICER ASSIGNMENT POLICIES, DETAILS AND TRANSFERS
AR600-8-24 OFFICER TRANSFERS AND DISCHARGES
DA PAM 600-3 COMMISSIONED OFFICER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND CAREER MANAGEMENT
AR135-175 SEPARATION OF OFFICERS
AR601-100 APPOINTMENT OF COMMISSIONED AND WARRANT OFFICERS IN THE REGULAR ARMY
AR350-100 OFFICER ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE OBLIGATIONS
AR145-1 SENIOR RESERVE OFFICERS` TRAINING CORPS PROGRAM: ORGANIZATION, ADMINISTRATION, AND TRAINING - But this is likely only relevant prior to your original Army commission.

Thank you both for the responses! I'll research the regs more and continue to perform at a high level.

AR614-120 Chapter 2 Para 2-1
h. No Army officer will be approved for an Inter-Service transfer until all service obligations incurred, under the provisions of AR 350–100, AR 351–3, and AR 27–1 have been completed.
i. Army officers may request an Inter-Service transfer, to another Uniformed Service, 12 months prior to the expiration date of their service obligation incurred under the provisions of AR 350–100, AR 351–3, and AR 27–1.

Let us know how it goes. The quickest path to transfer may be to serve 3 years of the obligation and then request the transfer.
