Hello all,

I had a question about how admissions scores the SAT. Do they only look at the composite score (As in Reading + Math), or do they look at each subject individually? And if so, is the math more heavily weighted?

Thanks!

USMA looks at each section of the SAT and ACT and sets desired minimums for each section. I say desired because there are cadets admitted with scores below those minimums. Note that minimums are not necessarily scores needed to be competitive. Under the old tests the minimums were: ACT 26 each section and a range of 29 - 31 composite. SAT 600 each section. Those may have changed with the redesigned tests.

I do not know whether or not each section is weighted equally in building the WCS, but math (test scores and coursework) will be looked at closely to determine ability to handle the USMA math program. Unlike many civilian colleges, cadets will take the same core math courses irrespective of major.

Only admissions knows the exact formula currently used to determine the WCS. You should try to do the best you can on all parts of standardized tests, it isn't like you should focus more on one part vs another.
