Good Evening,

We are pleased to announce the release of updates to our iOS and Android apps.

We encourage all of our app users to update their apps. In particular, due to back end changes, the old versions of both the iOS and Android apps will no longer be able to access the forum after 15 December 2016. Users will need at least Service Academy Forums® iOS app version 5.3.41 or Service Academy Forums® Android app version 5.1.25. In most cases, your device will notify you that an update is available and you can request to update our app.

We apologize for any inconvenience, but we hope that the updated app improves our user experience. Thank you for your time and please let me know if you have any questions.

Good Morning,

We have received some feedback regarding the app and how it displays thread images. To remove the image preview, go to the menu (three horizontal lines in the upper right corner) and click Settings. Deselect "Image Previews".

Thank you for your time.

The IOS current version is 10.1.1. FYI

I apologize for the ambiguity in the previous wording. I've edited the original post to indicate the version applies to the forum app and not the phone software. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

TN, from an iPhone, what emojis are available from either within the app, or usable from my emoji keyboard?

I have avoided using the emoji keyboard in case something got lost in translation, and an Android user saw something my iPhone didn't intend/send. I know that can happen between platforms from various makers. To my chagrin.

I have simply used old-school punctuation marks.

Thanks

Thank you for the question. There are basically 2 types of smilies:

1. Custom forum smilies - these will only parse when viewing the forum on a browser (i.e., they won't parse on the app and you'll just see the text). For example, :bounce1:. The smilies that will only parse in the browser are generally animated, but there are exceptions.

2. Generic smilies - these will parse on any device, but the exact image will depend on the device. For example, :). Note that some of the smilies in the forum toolbar (e.g., :() fall under the generic smilies category.

In terms of conflicts, it is possible that a custom forum smilie will parse as something different on another device. However, I'm not aware of any particular examples. If you hover over a forum smilie (either in the smilie toolbar or one in a post) you can see both the name and the text for the smilie.

In general, you can use smilies and the worst-case scenario is that it will show as text isntead of an image. It is possible, though unlikely, that it will show an image different from what you intended.

This is an iPhone emoji, within app, iPhone :

[emoji16]

It should be a yellow smiley showing double rows of teeth.

I would be interested to know what people see, and from what platform.

I see your yellow smiley with double rows of teeth. I'm on an iPhone 6s Plus. On the app.

My smiley is the sunglasses [emoji41]

Capt MJ - I checked before I updated; the emoji did not show. Now that I updated the app, I see your smiley with teeth. I'm running on Android, so apparently the upgrade has allowed us to cross the communication divide.

Hello. Ever since I downloaded the new IOS version (10.2), the app sporadically logs me out then doesn't recognize my userid and/or pw. I wait a while then all is well. Frustrating!

I'm sorry to hear about the issue you're having. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to replicate the issue with the same software combination, but I'll continue to monitor it. In the meantime, please try uninstalling and reinstalling the app and let me know if that helps with the problem.
