I am curious..

Once you have accepted USAFA and know it is where you want to be, how quickly does everyone decline their other service academy offers? (assuming one has more than one offer)

I would decline right away that way they have a chance to give your spot to someone else. thats what my congressman and ALO said to do

i agree... if i decline (which i will anyway since i accepted another academy) then someone else will also get to be as lucky as i to serve our country for free.. if i didn't get one originally, it sure would be nice to get one and all someone else had to do was decline...

Do you just call the Academies, and tell them or is there a specific form?

If you are unsure and undecided, by all means wait until you are convinced before taking any decisions. You have until May 1 to make up your mind, use all the time you need without regard to anyone else - this is your future, you earned the multiple appointments, you earned the right to contemplate the choice for as long as you need.

BUT.........

Once you accept an appointment to a service academy the ethical thing to do is to decline the other service academy appointment(s) as soon as possible.

Unlike a civilian backup plan, there is no good reason to delay it.

There is a form to send back.

Within a couple of days of receiving your declination to another SA, some young man/woman who RECEIVED THE THIN ENVELOPE will come home and find a BIG package from their dream in the mail...

THINK of what you'll have helped do, if only in a small way.

Nope, do it quickly.
