Hello everyone, I have a very interesting question that I've been wanting to figure out. I hear that people say that there have been some that get accepted with low scores and those with like near perfect scores get rejected. So my question is, what is the lowest score and section scores that anyone has heard of and they have been accepted to the Academy? Is it always random?

That's really hard to say because it is so much more than scores. A candidate that may have lower scores may show more leadership potential due to the fact of being a team captain or a cadet commander in ROTC/CAP. They may have more community service too whereas the high scorer did nothing outside of academics. A lot depends on the slate you're competing against. There are many factors.

Best of luck.

Thank you for your response. What exactly does the slate mean?

Members of Congress submit candidates from their district or state. Reps for districts, Senators for states. They nominate typically 10 names to each SA. Those on the slate will compete for the appointment. This is the very high level view, there is a bit more too it.

You can research all of this on this site. Use the search feature and acronym listing. Tons of great information out here with folks willing to provide info.

Yes, it is so much more than scores; it's the total package or whole person that's being evaluated against all other candidates. The admission board has a method of selecting the right ones. It would be nice to know the basic info of the "lowest" that got in such as SAT Math, SAT Reading, Class Rank, GPA, Athlete or not, EC, CFA, submitted essays/recommendations, pass medical, and nominated.
