Good luck to everyone who is waiting!!!

According to the USMA Admissions Facebook site:

ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS:
Today we are mailing 500 official offers of acceptance for those applicants who have already fully qualified and received their nominations. When you receive yours in the mail be sure to post a photo of you holding it with #ImGoingToWestPoint
This is just the first round of several more to go, so keep your eyes peeled for the mail carrier - they might have something for you.

It's interesting that it says "high school seniors." Must mean that college reapplicants are not in this wave of offers.

Since 7th semester transcripts are a requirement, how are these first 500 offers selected? My DD's transcripts will be available tomorrow. Sent out immediately. Does that mean she won't be part of the first round?
Thanks

7th semester grades are not required for appointment if 3Q'd from what DD was told.

7th semester grades are not required for an appointment if the application was complete and nomination source secured.

That's where the confusion is for DD. She had all green check marks with a nomination up until Jan. 1st then the red X for 7th semester grades. So we assumed the red X puts her back to not being complete. Application has been complete for awhile until this.

USMA Admissions just updated their posting:

"Whereas the majority of our incoming class are currently high school seniors, you are correct - there are others included in the incoming class e.g., those who are re applying."

Wow I'll be checking my mailbox all week. That's weird though because my 3q letter said most appointments will be made after Feb 26th. I guess they decided to send some out earlier.

Has she been fully qualified? If she was before 7th semester becoming due and secured nomination then she would be eligible for appointment without 7th semester.

DD's also says Feb. 26th so some will be happily surprised!

DD never received a 3Q notice but was told by her FFR that she was a competitve candidate but I don't think that's the same thing.

I have read some RC's don't do 3Q letters. DD was told by FFR back in Fall that she was highly competitive, received LOE in late September after her application was complete, but did not receive 3Q letter on portal until today after ACT writing score was received. Have your DD ask her RC, DD's told her 2 weeks ago she was fully qualified and now it was just waiting for nominations and appointments (she has had ROTC on portal since September but not sure if they will appoint on that or wait for congressional slate).

I think DD will be more qualified for Prep as her test scores are on the lower side of competitive. lots of others things working in her favor but that one thing might be enough to put her in prep.
I wonder when those notices will go out?

Typical timeline

1) Appointments mailed - in our case today, Tuesday
2 Congressman or Senator may (or may not) call today or tomorrow, maybe Thursday
3) BFE Received Fri/Sat/Mon depending on where you live
4) Portal updates next week
Thank you.

They will make appointments of candidates who are "clear winners" of spots. That does not necessarily mean that others in the same MOC district wont still get an appointment. It is just that there are several candidates who they know, based on the application and information that admissions has at this point, that the candidate is going to receive an appointment, one way or another. My son never even received a LOE, but got his appointment in early January last year. He had solid enough academics and ACT scores, that combined with his athletic (not a scholarship athlete, just all-around athlete with several varsity letters) and other achievements, his RC said he was going to be admitted somehow, so they offered early. Please understand, the 7th and 8th semester transcripts are still required, and the appointee better not have bad grades.

For those who receive an appointment, and to the parents, congratulations! It is an awesome thing, and an awesome moment. Memorable for sure, and it gets better after that. A-day is even cooler.

Good luck to all. It was a year ago almost to the day that my son got the call from our Congressman at school. I still remember the sheer joy in his voice when he called me from the school office.

Fast forward to today and he is learning to live on a max of 5 hours of sleep a night and the pressures that come with being a plebe.

I was nominated by Congresswoman Donna Edwards (MD-4). She is now out of office and a new person is in. Does this mean that if I received an appointment I would have to wait for a letter because my nominating Congresswoman isn't in office anymore?

COMPETITIVE is one of the terms used to categorize files. It is good because it means the initial academic and informational data indicate that the candidate has a good chance of being qualified. It also means that the file has not gone before the admissions committee to be evaluated for the next level - QUALIFIED, although it will have already been reviewed by two RC's to calculate the WCS. Many files have not yet gone before the admissions committee - they only meet on Tuesday and and can only review so many files in a day. Those first 500 are the no-brainers: LOA's, clear district winners, very high WCS scores, etc.
