Has anyone here seen the sci-fi show Stargate: SG-1 (or its spinoffs Stargate: Atlantis and Stargate: Universe)? Out of curiosity, I was wondering how accurate, or inaccurate, Stargate was in portraying the real Air Force. Since the AF officially supported the show and had some input on script decisions, was there any visible effects of that influence or of improvement of accuracy?

After missing the boat of Top Gun, I think the Air Force will take whatever it can get.

Some things they got right, many things they got wrong.

Suffice to say, "fighter pilot, astrophysicist, special operations infantry" isn't a realistic USAF career path...But it is an entertaining show.

I am probably the worlds biggest SG 1 fan, or close to it. I can tell you they DID NOT have an AF advisor for season 1 and it shows, painfully.

After that the basics got better (uniforms, ranks etc) but as raimus said, the jobs are not all that realistic. I'd say it's actually a pretty good overall portrayal of things though (and to be honest really contributed to my ending up as an AF officer...)

Awesome, thanks! (and thanks to raimius!) That's pretty interesting.
