Congrats to the Class of 2012 - full carry-on privileges granted today! :thumb:

I hear a celebratory BBQ at the Stonington Lodge is on schedule for tonight!

Enjoy the last full week of school (before finals) without bussing to class or squaring!

It was a long tough year, you all can be proud of your accomplishments.

Congrats again to all the soon-to-be-3/C Class of 2012!!

it means that they no longer have to square their meals and can look around when at attention and stuff. oh and they dont have to walk to classes in a formation, they can walk around alone.

BACKPACKS!

Zach, I assume you've heard the entire "backpack" story, right?

I was an even year....

....it might just be that odd years "suck at life".

That #2 on the list, about losing the carry on.....always had people scared, and it has been done too. AHHHH!

and what have they done in order to earn this carry on?
and is this earlier or later then normal???

Not too long ago....maybe 2003 a member of the class of 2005 routed a memo to allow cadets to carry back packs. The memo wasn't high on anyone's list, but it became a big thing when the Commandant of Cadets responded. At the end of a fairly "rough" email was the line "Backpacks? No Sir." (this coming from a CG captain). Well, needless to say, that email spread very far, including into the fleet. It made it's way to "Fred's Place" (the Coast Guard's precursor to Military.com, which was eventually bought by Military.com and that why the Coast Guard has such high member numbers on there).

It wasn't until after that Commandant of Cadets left in 2006 or 2007 that the "backpacks decision" was reversed. That last line "Backpacks, no sir." was pretty big though, and eventually evolved into many other things compliments of the Corps of Cadets "Morale, no sir.....Civies, no sir....etc etc etc.

haha that's pretty funny that we've gone from that to not using backpacking being considered an upperclass privilege.
