President Trump's national security adviser resigns.

Did he see or hear something he didn't like?

It is possible that the job was never really offered or that Vice Adm. Harward had a better offer. I assume that will be the Administration's spin. That's the way the game works.

I do wonder if Robert Gates or David Petraeus had better offers when they accepted offers from President Obama. Harward wouldn't have even had a Senate confirmation hearing to assume, arguably, the most prestigious jobs in National Security Policy.

So Trump turns down this guy for McFarland, a Fox news consultant. Why doesn't he just give her the position then? This really does not paint a good picture of his decisions.

It does not speak well of his decisions, but it is consistent with most of them in its quality.

Should love/faith be conditional, or should one think more globally to the bigger picture? Don't rough seas make better sailors? When things are bad, or perceived as bad depending on perspective, then isn't that the time when leadership is needed the most? Our country is a work in progress. Our track record isn't the greatest. There are several examples of things we've done as a nation that we shouldn't be proud of, but we often grow the most from our obstacles. I sense we are entering a more polarized time in our history, made more dangerous by the fact there are those who look to try and replace us as the greatest nation on Earth. We can point fingers, blame others, and wring our hands lamenting about the good old days, but let's face it, that doesn't move things forward. Facing our fears as a nation gives us an opportunity to address them. We're not perfect, but we should never stop striving to be just that. There are obstacles in our future, but we'll figure it out and grow as a nation. That's what we do, and that's what I love about this country. My DD is not risking her life for an individual nor for a political party, she's doing it because she has unconditional love for her country...good or bad, she believes in our evolution, and she is willing to risk it all defending the ideal that eventually our future is greater than our past...even if we go sideways every now and then. If people aren't willing to defend this dream in the darkest of times, then how are we to have hope for a better future? Serving as an officer is much more than simply finding a way to pay for college. It's gut check time for a lot of young people. Your country needs you now more than ever. Are you willing to answer the call to serve, or will you rely on someone else to do it for you, holding on to your conditions being met first? I couldn't be prouder of my DD, as I'm sure many of you can relate. It is a challenging transition to say the least, but it has to be a sign that a brighter dawn will soon emerge.

Sometimes defending the dream( and the Constitution, require a healthy skepticism snd a clear eye. After all, officers are required to defend against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Don't we have enough smoke here to look for a fire? If nothing is wrong, the President should welcome an investigation which would prove no wrongdoing. And Sally Q Yates should lead it

And the Obama administration officials should be the one's who are investigated. What wiretaps did James Clapper & Loretta Lynch authorize & when did they authorize them? Why did President Obama give the NSA more authorization 8 days before he left office? Lets start at the beginning, that's a very fine place to start.

Any investigation will inevitably bridge both administrations since the periods of time we're talking about run through the election, transition and inauguration. So yes, naturally members of the Obama administration would factor into the investigation. Is that supposed to be a threatening suggestion? I'm pretty sure most Dems and Obama staffers are advocating for an investigation that would necessarily involve them.

Also, btw, the Obama era's surveillance obsession is well documented, investigated and criticized on both sides of the aisle. (Uh, Edward Snowden anyone?) If Trump staffers or contacts weren't aware that the US government wiretaps, well, everyone then they haven't been reading the newspaper for the last decade.

That to me is the most important reason for having freedom of the press...to serve as watch dogs.

At last! Finally, an investigation of the Obama Administration.

What wiretaps did James Clapper & Loretta Lynch authorize & when did they authorize them?

Do the FBI and/or the NSA require specific authorization every time they try to tap the Russian Ambassador's phone? Or the communications of Russians on Russian soil?

Why did President Obama give the NSA more authorization 8 days before he left office?

I hadn't seen this. What was the specific authorization? To do what?

Lets start at the beginning, that's a very fine place to start.

What's the start date of your inquiry?

Reality Reflection Not Politics: General Tony Thomas' stated assessment and Admiral Harward's declining of NSA position. Not part of the politics of Washington or positions on this Board.

Washington Post reports that as one possible reason. The other is the financial impact to his family. So who knows which it is? Deasn't necessarily reflect on Trump. Hell, Trump offered it to him so he's not a total idiot.

So the White House is either: 1) chaotic or 2) a fine-tuned machine. I doubt it can be both and helps explain why Adm Harward said 'no thanks' to the job offer.

Kinnem,

You may want to pull back on the throttle. I'd hate to see your effusive praise compromise your integrity and credibility.

Or, maybe as a moderator Kinnem could just shut this thread down and ban himself since he does not agree with the vocal minority (yes, I spelled this correctly).

Hardly think my praise is effusive. He has certainly screwed things up. I just don't see the evidence for some of the accusations being made.... yet. I'll bide my time until I see the evidence.

It's pretty standard operating procedure to listen in on the phone calls of all ambassadors to the US, and don't think for one second that other countries with reliable electrical grids don't do the same to US delegates abroad.

It's one of the most beneficial aspects of having the United Nations based in New York City, too, though the US doesn't announce it out loud.

Any American speaking (or texting, or emailing) to a representative of the Russian government should expect to have their conversations listened in on. Only a fool wouldn't.

To me, it was almost comical when the Germans were shocked - SHOCKED - that the US was listening to Chancellor Angela Merkel's phone conversations a few years ago. Gimme a break.

I would bet my mortgage payment that the US has been listening to Soviet/Russia ambassador phone calls since about the 1930s. Why the Trump administration (ooops, I should say "campaign") would be surprised by this is a mystery. Either ignorance or arrogance, both of which are pretty believable.

Oh, and to imply that James Clapper, whose been in the service of his country almost continuously since 1963, was somehow a shill for Barrack Obama is disgraceful.

Trying to spin this entire Trump/Flynn/Russia fiasco into a Obama conspiracy is absurd. I don't even think you believe it.

It's been awhile since I've posted on SA Forums, I've read the above thread and all I have to say is "I am SO GLAD Donald Trump is my Dear Son's Commander in Chief". If anybody thinks the alternative would have been better please respond...
