Do any of you forum folks plan to stay at a hotel prior to depositing their Plebe? We will be coming in for the weekend prior, so we can have some last minute quality time together. We are staying at the Springhill/Marriott in Annapolis. They have a pool and free breakfast. If you have AAA membership, it's quite a good deal, at only $118 per night for a suite.

This would be a nice time to make introductions, both parents and plebes. Any ideas?

Driving from NJ the night before. Staying at the Doubletree. They offer a discount to USNA Parents; but you have to make the reservation over the phone since this is not a choice on the internet. Also made a 2 night reservation for August 7 & 8 thinking this might be PPW; can always cancel.

Doubletree also has a shuttle that drops you off at Alumni Hall. Last year they loaded the shuttle according to reporting times for I Day. We were greeted by Chaplains when we got off the shuttle.

Getting there the day before (have to take my twin brother to the USCGA R-day :) )staying at one of the historic inns. I am so excited! :)

I've been to the doubletree there in Annapolis, it has really nice suites and you get fresh cookies

We're flying in several days early to get used to the time change ... we'll stay in/around the area with family, then be at the SpringHill Suites June 30 ... just so we can be near for whatever Induction Time our Plebe draws ... we'll be back again for PPW ...

Thanks for the tip. The shuttle service is a nice feature.

PPW: August 7th-9th, this has been confirmed by Veronica Gibson USNA Parent Club Coordinator.

When do events begin on Aug 7th? We live 6 hours away and trying to figure out if we need to drive up on the 6th. Any idea when they end on the 9th?

If you can afford the time and $$ to come up on 6 August, I would recommend it. If the schedule is similar to last year's, there will be activities for parents starting ~0700 on Friday, 7 August. Last year they offered tours of some of the academic buildings. It was very impressive to see the lab facilities, towing tanks, and such. There was also an opportunity to see displays about all of the academic departments, and to meet some of the faculty.

Please note that your Plebes are (or they were last year) OFF LIMITS to you until they complete their noon formation. If you see your Plebe during Friday morning, walk the other way to avoid tempting him/her to stop and talk to you. Last year a Plebe lost his PPW town liberty by stopping to say hello to his family during the morning, after they had all been told not to make contact until liberty call. Do not let this happen to your Plebe!

I'm from Arizona and have never been out of the southwest so I'm flying out a few days before I-Day so we can go see the capital and just kind of tour around before. I have no idea where we're staying yet, but we're flying out of Phoenix June 26. Any other Arizonans with similar travel plans?

Texan!

My family and I are flying out of Vegas on June 24th. We will be sight seeing for that week. I think we're headed up to Penn. first, and then staying four days close to D.C.

GO NAVY, BEAT ARMY!

Fresh cookies sounds nice, but at Springhill you get a whole breakfast! Hmmm? Decisions, decisions.

We are staying at Spring Hill Suites too ... partly becuase all five of us will be there ... and two beds PLUS a fold-out couch is a must. what sounds good at the Doubletree is the shuttle bus to the academy! That might be worth paying for breakfast ...

I think a lot of us will be in the area a few days before I-Day. We are driving from Texas, spending a few days at Virginia Beach, a couple of days in DC ( we have all been there before) and then arriving in Annapolis the Monday before I-Day. We rented a house on Fleet Street as there are six of us this trip.

I am thinking of a get together for the forum parents.........maybe stop by the Fleet Street house or meet somewhere like Chick and Ruth's the day before I-Day......any suggestions? Someone had suggested we all just wear name tags with our forum handle to I-Day, however in the throngs of parents, I bet we would not see each other? Maybe we could meet at a particular place at USNA on I-Day?

No problem! Taxi ride is less than the cost of parking.

Annapolis Sheraton offers USNA shuttle

We stayed at the Sheraton Hotel (thru Priceline) during 2012 PPW ............there was a shuttle bus to/from USNA every 30-45 min , or when requested. Our plebe enjoyed the easy walk to the next door Annapolis Mall for a movie , snacks and just unwinding......the hotel and mall were full of NAVY families.
