May seem a little early but maybe some current cadets can help me out with this. If i were to buy accessories for a computer (laptop stand, printer, ect.) what kind of laptop am i buying for.. i realize that we (2013) might not get the same laptop 2012 got last year...

2012 were issued some kind of Fujitsu tablet PC I thought... Not sure details after that. I seem to have recalled seeing this posted somewhere else. I'll try and dig it up.

From the Instructions to Appointees booklet...

Since the computer will not be seleced until May 2009, we cannot list the specifications yet; however, it will be similar to the computer issued to te Class of 2012 described below:
Fijitsu model T4220 tablet computer

Thanks buffalo... I knew I saw that somewhere...

They look like pretty nice laptops... Fujitsu's are pretty reliable from what I hear.

why would you want macbooks?
there main advantages are in art-projects, security, and prettines
-art-projects you won't do
-security is really an illusion not based on the operating system but instead on the fact that viruses aren't written for macs and besides I'm pretty sure DoD will take care of any security for PCs or Macs
-so all you have left is prettiness which is OBVIOUSLY worth the extra $300-1000 for the same operating power

Mac has its place but its place is with yuppies and art-projects...

haha completely true.

But ultimately, we will have no idea what the computers are until after may 2009. I want to save up for a large monitor mostly. I shadowed last week and got to use one of the cadet's computer to check my email and it was awful... the screens are ridiculously tiny. they're almost claustrophobic lol.

whoaa whoaa.. hey now...security i'll give you... art projects have nothing to do with anything.. i dont use my macbook for any art projects... i will admit the cost more for the same or less HARD DRIVE... BUT.. macbooks and all other apple products come with a price premium... you dont buy any anti spyware software or any software other than your office for mac for that matter... and NO VISTA! :) yes they are pricey but WAY faster than any PC for the same price... no im not turning this into a defend the macbook forum because i dont want to get off topic... but for ME its just EASIER to use a mac... i know what im doing and i can do it very well... i'd have to re-learn a PC without all of my shortcuts lol.. i'll get used to it.. nevertheless, we all get a FREE COMPUTER! which in the long run IS pretty awesome :)

Actually, Im pretty sure they take the cost of the computer out of your pay for the first year

yeah you got me... BUT i dont know it... so i still RECEIVE MONEY to GO TO COLLEGE... i cant complain

Well I guess I have good news and bad news... that line of computers was shut down so we won't be getting the same computers. My bet is on a dell tablet, although that has more to do with the rest of the AF using dells than anything else.

Just curious, where is news that it is no longer available coming from? The computer can still be bought of Fujitsu's website...

And I did not think that Dell made tablet notebooks. Not sure about that though.

as long as you don't get stuck with gateways like 2010, you'll be fine.

my died, gateway had sold schools sales to MPC who went out of business, so they told me "too bad. here's a rental for the next year and a half, or you can buy a new one on your own"

so i'm using a 2009 rental for the next 400-something days

The paticular model that the Academy uses is no longer supported. The warranties for the class of 2012 will continue, mostly thanks to the helpdesk, but I was informed by the comm squad that we shouldn't be getting Fujitsus.

As to dell not having tablets... http://www.dell.com/tablet

the helpdesk just uses what the company gives them. they're a middle link between you and the company where your warranty is
