Highschool junior looking into VMI, need advice?

My grades were not so good either going into VMI in 1990. What I did have was a good all-around application with extra-curricular activities (church, Scouts, Etc.), varsity athletics, part time job, and several letters of recommendation from VMI alumni. If you know any alumni, reach out to them and see if they would be willing to help. They usually will bend over backward to help you. One of my son's classmates was turned down at USNA but was accepted to VMI. I did write him a letter of recommendation but I'm sure he would have gotten in on his own merits. It's a very tight fraternity and we'll help anyone in any way we can.

I just want to say thank you for reaching out to m with advice! My 2.3 gpa is such a downer i feel absolutely terrible/regretful over it.im not even sure if above average SAT/ACT scores may help. I dont go i to varsity sports. But this year im joining multiple clubs at my school along with trying to get community hours and sports done all in this year.

I only know two people, one thats currently a rat in VMI who i text, and the other is in the same positon as me helping me with getting in. Though i dont really have any connections or help whatsoever in gaining an admission. Would you happen to know anyone who may help me increase my chances of getting admitted? I really am trying my best in school (taking AP/business classes) and in my overall life. I truly want to serve my country, but i want that goal to start in VMI.

Your drive to attend VMI is a big plus and you should definitely convey that to the admissions office. I would als0 add that your school being very competitive and among the best in Florida may be of assistance as well. Best of Luck to you!

The Citadel is also pricey for out of state but that is true of all colleges these days. As I stated on another thread for a student with similar credentials the GPA will make you marginal for a majority of colleges though the high SAT will balance it out somewhat, strong extracurriculars like school sports, band or JROTC are also highly preferred for SMCs. Take a shot at your top choices but have have plenty of backups in mind, the more schools you apply to the better your chances of getting accepted by one.

Isn't the title of this thread "Highschool junior looking into VMI, need advice?" Getting into VMI is very demanding and these are two VERY different schools...
