Quantity of Marine Option Scholarships

Does anyone have any idea how many Marine Option Scholarships are awarded in each Marine Corps Recruiting District? Or how many are awarded in total across all the Districts?
 
There were ten scholarships nationwide for the early board. I am not sure about the number for this next board, but I believe it's in the neighborhood of 100-150 total nationwide. Maybe @NavyNOLA knows?

Wait, only 10 people got a scholarship on the Early Board? Just 10?
 
My daughter was awarded a the scholarship at the early board. She is a freshman at a SMC. The Marine Colonel from OCS was at her school for a speech and when my daughter's scholarship was announced the Colonel said there were only ten awarded nationwide.

That's insane. I thought the USMC was allowed to award 400-500 Scholarships per year(between the early and regular Boards). If that's the case, then I guess a whole lot of people are getting it on the main board. If that's not the case, then I was severely lied to about 400-500 scholarships per year lol. Which Marine Corps District are you in?(I am in the 1st)

I don't think it's anywhere near 400-500. A low number on the first board makes sense. They are only going to award them to folks that are soooo good that they'll get a scholarship on the second board anyway. Otherwise, it's better for them to wait and see what the entire pool looks like. At least that's how I heard someone explain it all to me once upon a time.
 
It is the smallest branch, therefore fewer officers needed each year. The early board is very small, with most scholarships being awarded on the second board. As I said I do not know the numbers but it is nowhere near 500.
 
If you think about it, they'll only commission around maybe 200-250 each year. I know 2009 was 218. They would need way fewer than that on scholarship to achieve those numbers.

Respectively, no thank you. I have nothing at all against the Army, I just very much want to join the USMC(Navy would be a close second choice, but USMC 200%). I have for a long time wanted to commission in the USMC, so I'm going to take as many possible options(NROTC,PLC,OCC) as I can.
 
I think the facts are getting twisted here.

EOD/SEALmom - didn't your DD get the scholarship as a freshman? The number of college freshmen who get a 4 year scholarship is probably very low. Ten may be correct.

The number of scholarships awarded on the first board to high school seniors is much higher.

I never thought about that possibility
 
Yes, she is a freshman but it was the national four year scholarship. All students with less than 30 credit hours are treated the same, regardless if they are a high school senior or college freshman. She was awarded the scholarship before her first college semester was even finished (early November), so her application was based mostly on her high school record.

The side load 2 and 3 year scholarships are even more competitive.
