NAPS Wait List?

Long time lurker, first time poster, but consistently have had my fingers crossed for all the kids and families on the board waiting on Service Academy admissions decisions this year. As someone who grew up military and works military, it's great to see so many of the next generation willing to step forward to serve! Hooah!

My cousin just learned today that he is on the wait list for NAPS. I've seen details on the wait list for USNA itself, but am a bit clueless on how the wait list situation may work for NAPS. :scratch: I was told about 250 appointments went out for NAPS this year, but not sure of that how many statistically turn it down, how many are typically on the wait list, and if the list is ranked.

Any insight and/or suggestions I could pass along to him?

Well in my NAPS class this year, class of 09, we started with 289 I think, were at 257 now if that helps at all with how many are accepted here.
 
I just talked to the USNA 5 minutes ago about the same situation.

I was told that there are no averages in the amount of appointments accepted and I was also told that there isn't specifically a ranking system. I asked about the amount of people in this years list but that information wasn't disclosed to me for whatever reason.

After May 1st, if all of the spots for NAPS aren't filled, then the Dean Of Admissions himself will go through the "NAPS Pool" ( waiting list) and pick people to fill the empty billets. I suppose offers will be made up to I-Day until the spots are filled.

As for advice for your cousin, tell him to stand by. He could get an offer for NAPS between the first week of May and the third week of July, its impossible to say.

Oh and I also asked if there was anything one could do to improve his/her standings on the wait list and I was told " not really, just wait it out."

Thanks! Learned some of that through our phone call yesterday too, but didn't know about the Dean going through himself. Good to know. The person we spoke with did say my cousin could call the Regional Director and submit any additional awards, grades, activities, etc that have occurred since submitting his packet. Not sure if that's a huge factor in final decisions but I guess every little bit helps.

If they say typically 250 offers, but last year's class started w/ 289, could that mean they also wait list people to determine if they can simple add more slots to a class? Or is it all just waiting to see if someone turns down an acceptance? :confused:
 
My son was also wait listed for NAPS, but he never received anything in mail. His B & G officer gave him the information on April 13. This was confirmed by his Region Admissions Counselor on the 15th.

If someone has received an actual letter can you send me a message? It doesn't have to be PM.

well here is the last few years on how many have been accepted and graduated.
Class of 2000: 329 started, 212 graduated
· Class of 2001: 346 started, 223 graduated
· Class of 2002: 365 started, 258 graduated
· Class of 2003: 337 started, 263 graduated
· Class of 2004: 335 started, 258 graduated
· Class of 2005, 298 started, 253 graduated
· Class of 2006, 300 started, 268 graduated
· Class of 2007, 278 started, 237 graduated

So i think they send out like 350 offers for ppl to come here and they either take them or dont. Idk how many are on the wait list I wouldnt think it would be too many since its hard to be even considered for NAPS.

WOW that is almost as many kids as go in the the USCGA! WOW... I didnt realize it was so big..
