ROTC Nominations

This fall I will be attending Binghamton University, which offers army and air force ROTC, but not Navy. Is there still an ROTC option to be nominated to USNA through these programs? I saw something on USNA's website about an ROTC nomination through army or air force "Honor School" but it have no description of what this is. Thanks.

That description applies to High Schools with JROTC, who have been designated an honor school by JROTC. I do not know if you can get a ROTC nomination to USNA via AROTC or AFROTC. Did you apply for NROTC scholarship as a backup? If not, why not? If you did, why not attend that school?

As it happened the schools that I was accepted into and those that have NROTC did not line up. I realize in hindsight that I really should have applied to more schools to cover all my bases, but that's a mistake I own. In navigating the consequences of this myopia, I suppose I'll likely find myself relying on a congressional nomination this year again which is obviously not ideal. Then again my improved application should be of assistance to my competitiveness on the slate, so who knows.

Glad to hear you own it. I'm sure you'll plan better next time. There is nothing preventing you from doing AROTC and re-applying to USNA. You may or may not qualify for a ROTC nomination. Personally I would skip AROTC, focus on grades, and apply to USNA and NROTC next year (which implies transferring schools if you get an NROTC scholarship). Totally up to you regardless of the ROTC nom.

I have been on a roll with making the same post to multiple threads, must be that time of year. Don't forget about the
Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate Program (NUPOC). It could be your way to commission if USNA doesn't work out and you are attending a non NROTC school.

Thank you. I am definitely keeping NUPOC in mind, as my ultimate goal is to become a nuclear submarine officer.
