AIM

Folks, be nice...the information is important and finding it is too. Give the benefit of the doubt when a question is asked.

Thanks!!

Steve

Wasn't trying to be rude or abrasive! I just know the process took a long time (more than a month for some) and was sincerely hoping that no one was trying to pull it off in 1 week.

Doesn't this qualify as "research"? Not near as "hard" as googling "USCGA AIM" but nonetheless......

Yes, it does. However, the OP asked a simple question that took me 30 seconds to find an answer to. This forum is a wonderful resource to ask questions and find out more information on various service options, SAs, ROTC, SMCs, etc. That being said, I've started to see this pattern of candidates coming to the forum, asking a question like the one above and getting immediate gratification from someone else who has done or is doing the research themselves. In my mind, all that does is cause laziness and bad habits. As future military leaders for this country, it's better they get used to doing the research first and then, if they are unable to find the answer, asking the question. It's a basic JO skill that is often joked about, at least in the Coast Guard. If you haven't read the manual or manuals pertaining to whatever the topic is before asking the question, you're doing it wrong. Oftentimes on a CG ship, the JO is expected to be the subject matter expert in whatever collateral duty is assigned from Morale Officer to Educations Services Officer to Urinalysis Officer (yes, it's a pleasant collateral). That takes the ability to research. It's no different in my mind then doing research for a paper.

I don't want to dissuade anyone from asking questions here, especially questions where this forum may provide multiple perspectives and allow someone to make a better decision for themselves. I DO want to encourage applicants to work to find the answers to the easier questions instead of just taking 5 seconds to create a thread and ask a question. A cut and dry question like the one above doesn't need a thread all to itself when you know the answer can be given by the first poster.

To the moderator and the OP, my apologies, I was not trying to be rude or discourage you (the OP) from writing.

Thank you for this post. I would have given it 100 Likes if it were possible.
