Minuteman Scholarship

I spoke with my National Guard recruiter while feeling out my other options in the event I am not accepted to West Point. In essence, after reviewing my qualifications, the officer in charge of the Minuteman Scholarship program is willing to wave the prior enlistment requirement for me if I get all my ducks in a row by the deadline (Friday) and get it on paper that I am a 09R (officer in training).

They told me that in all likelihood I would receive the 4 year scholarship.
This is excellent because this provides a window into the ROTC program that was previously closed and it gives me additional funding and a non-deployable status so I can finish school before potentially being activated and going to fight.

Here's the kicker: no one is (understandably) willing to get the ball rolling on paperwork, AFPT, MEPS, etc--all of which are necessary for the scholarship--until I commit to the NG route. I am unwilling to commit until I get a more definitive answer or grasp of what my current standing is with West Point.

I emailed my RC and called the office, but he is out and will not be back until tomorrow and I need to take action ASAP. The FFRs have no insight into the NWL so no dice there.

Who else can I try to get ahold of?

If you commit to NG but then are accepted to WP, your appointment would trump any other commitments, correct?

I was told they would "fight like hell" to get me to West Point and "no one here wants to keep you here in that event", but it didn't sound like a guarantee to me. Moreover, say I take the scholarship and then receive an appointment to USMA in May. I've now taken a scholarship slot that could have gone to someone who needed it; to me, that unconscionable.

Understood. Yes, I would not say that is the best option. I also agree with you as we all know how much that single slot would mean to the potential recipient. You could try speaking with your region diversity officer, as I believe they have the same access to files as the RC. They may be able to give you insight if you try to contact them.

Still no response from RC, who I emailed and called. Called the diversity outreach officer, but no answer. I called the IT person, but no answer. Any more ideas?
