Hey everyone, the 4 yr journey of AFROTC is just about over and I am starting to look for uniforms. I was wondering if anyone had any tips to save some money or the best place to find in stock uniforms? We are allowed to buy some uniforms items from out Det but I think I'll be going with all new uniforms because the ones we have are literally falling apart. Thanks in advance!

Is there an AF base anywhere nearby your location? If so, Clothing Sales carries uniforms and usually there is an alteration department within or nearby.

BTW - Congrats on completing your journey and best of luck.

There's a base about an hour away (Should've included that info) and I had planned on going there also but was just wondering if anyone had advice. Thanks, I'm really looking forward to the real journey beginning!

Is it something you need to sew anything onto? If not then I wouldn't worry about it, and just get it when you get to your first base. An Lt that came to my base didn't even have ranks when he got there, we just went and grabbed hard rank at the uniform store and put them on on the way over to the squadron. Now I wouldn't want to be him, but it's not the end of the world.

It's the service coat. I'm sure it's not needed but was just wondering how that is handled if you can't get one in time.

I'd try on what they have at the base you're near to, find the size you want and call the base you're going to and have them order it. Then once you get there you can have them tailor it on base and you should have it all set within a couple days. The only time I've worn service dress while on AD so far was at tech school graduation. However if you want it for commissioning, you'd have to get them to rush it and I'm not sure how that works.

Couple of options:

1)Like afrotc16 said, you can call Clothing Sale and order it directly. You can also ask them to see if other stores have them in stock, if they do, they can ship it to your location. I was able to order my serive coat this way.
2)Ebay-You can find plenty of uniform items on there at relatively low prices
3)Check out your local Air Force base's Airmen's Attic/Thrift shop for uniform items (as well as a bunch of other household goods)

I would check with your det regarding your uniform attire for the actual commissioning service. My DH (eons ago) and our DS both were required to wear the full uniform even in 90 plus degree weather where they commissioned outside.
~ Pretty sure though that DS has only wore it again once (sadly for a funeral ---C130J crash)
