Awaiting Appointment/Denial

Appointees have until May 1st (if I remember correctly) to accept or decline. Some are waiting until the last minute to see what other offers they get from other schools. If they get some turn downs those slot open up. Like I have said before my DS had a kid in his plebe summer company who got his appointment the first week in June. By the way...That kid is doing fine. It aint over till its over.

The way I see it, if you deserve an appointment you will receive one. It's as simple as that. This waiting game is just a formality, and a very painful one, so hopefully this idea helps ease the mind of my fellow CPRs - I know it helped me. Good luck everyone!

I could not disagree more with this one. Plenty of deserving kids get turned down every year.

I echo your sentiments Maplerock...lots of great individuals have been turned down. My DD being one of them! She faced this disappointment in a way that I have found admirable and she recognizes that there was a reason. However, she does not feel that she didn't 'deserve it'.

The way I read the comment was "the decision is made, it's out of my hands, there's nothing I can do about it now, and I left it all on the field. If it's meant to be, it will happen" - I don't think that's a bad way to look at it, especially if it keeps from obsessing and stressing over something out of one's control.

Absolutely, anyone still in the game at this point is more than deserving, and is perfectly qualified to do great things at USNA.

But everyone knows it's down to numbers and unfortunately, for whatever reasons they have, Admissions has to determine that some are just slightly more deserving than others. The key is to regroup, reflect, and figure out how to be a little more deserving next time, if that's the goal.

Best of luck to everyone still on the board! and Best of luck to anyone who will be back for round 2!

I agree with @Maplerock. There are also factors such as a limitation on how many students a MOC can have in a SA at one time. A candidate can be perfect and be denied because of the enrollment rules. Many highly qualified candidates get denied not because they are not deserving but because of various other reasons such as limitations by congressional district or numbers of slots taken by college reapplicants, NAPS, etc. There are so many great young men and women and to just make it to qualified applicant status is amazing. The competition is fierce and I am proud of each and every applicant who doggedly pursued the requirements to even be considered as an applicant to serve our country at the best leadership and academic schools that our country offers. To say they are undeserving as to why they are not chosen doesn't give them nearly the credit that they really do deserve. Anyone can fill out a college application to anywhere but only a small percentage can fulfill the rigorous requirements to be a SA candidate.

I agree with AE6Dad..... I really think the young man meant "if you are supposed to get appointed, it will happen" and just used "deserve to get" in error.

Still CPR in VA-04... one other guy from my school got denied, recently. I put in my package on the 25 of January, what am I looking at here as far as odds and outcomes? Nomination (Congressman, VA-04) has been in since November... The waiting has been killing me. It has been what, nine weeks? Other schools are starting to look for paperwork. Just have to hold the line, and refuse to give up the ship...

^^ I agree with you completely

Currently a senior. My application was completed back in November and I received two nominations. I'm losing my mind because I'm checking my email and mail everyday and I haven't been notified of appointment or denial. I know the deadline is April 15th, but I'm having a panic attack playing the waiting game. As far as anything with my application and extracurricular, my BGO just said to be patient. But still it's getting pretty scary. Any suggestions/advice? Be honest. I just want to know haha.
Still CPR here as well. Just checked at 3pm cst and no change. Guessing that is good news from what I am reading? Any thoughts?

Right there with you PatienceVirtue. DD still CPR as of this evening despite having her application completed last June. I'm biting my tongue so that I don't ask "Have you checked your portal lately?"
Same here. Application and dodmerb Q'd Aug last year. Have nom and just waiting...

Update to my thread: I just received my TWE yesterday along with a handful of candidates. And I was in a really bad place mentally. To go through such a rigorous process just to face the end like this is horrible. But I completely agree with everyone who said that all those in CPR are deserving of appointment. I certainly know that i am and i know that all of the other candidates who got a TWE are too. But it's out of our hands and the numbers just didn't work out. Believe me, I was in the mindset that I am going to USNA. I know I definitely gave it all I had and to see it fall short is heartbreaking. It's definitely tough, but after talking to my summer seminar squad leader (he was denied his first try as well), it really put things into perspective. It's all about how you react to this moment. Some let it get to their heads and feel down for too long, others see this as a reason to put in even more work to make themselves better. He said that this in no way shows that you are a bad candidate, but it just shows how many people wanna get in. I wish everyone still in CPR the best of luck. And I hope all those with TWE have plan B's that work out for them. I'm def gonna try for Class of 2022

Well, at this point, we have 16 days until the final hammer falls. Another day on CPR means another day without a TWE. So there is that going for us. Keep your head high!
