I had posted earlier about whether or not to accept a falcon foundation scholarship; however, I neglected to ask which one should I attend for the best chance of earning an appointment next year. I already have the scholarship, but I need to pick a prep school by the end of the week. Any suggestions? Thank you!

My son went to NWP (Northwestern Prep in California). Great School. I read a post earlier that someone recommended RMA Randolph Macon Academy in Virginia.

With the Falcon Foundation, you have a golden ticket to the academy. Abide by your contract, stay out of trouble and any of the schools will get you your appointment. What you need to ask yourself now is, "what type of prep year do I want?"

I'm in the same situation. From what I've read on the forum, Northwestern seems to be a great option. Although NWP isn't exactly a military school, their appointment rate (so I've heard) is in the upper 90's. I've even read that one year NWP had 100% of USAFA applicants receive an appointment. If anyone has information on NWP, or any other Prep School for that matter, feel free to let us know!

I went to NWP a few years ago. Feel free to send me any specific questions, I would highly recommend their program.
Is the reapplication process any different for a Falcon Scholar attending NWP?

It's a little different for Falcon scholars in general, at least it when I re-applied. Mostly there are just a few forms you don't need to resumbit. You still need to submit SAT/ACT scores and get a nomination again, though.

Marion Military Institute provides a good balance of academics, PT, and military lifestyle if that is what you're looking for. While its location isn't exactly optimal, it's affordable and you'll make some great friends. I'd love to answer more questions if you have any. Good luck in your journey!

I would consider Greystone at Schreiner University. My DS is there this year and he has had an experience of a lifetime.
Did DS get college credit? Would a AFROTC scholarship work for that program? Also was DS on Falcon Scholarship? Did he get appointment this year?

In terms of SA acceptance, I do not think one is better than the other. If you are successful at any of the options they give you, you will have the same opportunity to attend USAFA. I would suggest you look into all of the options. Explore their programs, cost, etc. and choose the one that fits you best.

If you would like to have the military aspect, look closer at the military schools. If it is important to you to earn college credit, choose an option that meets this need. Are you independent and looking for a larger student body, then head that direction. No one can tell you which one to choose as it is really a personal choice based on which one you will be most comfortable at and which one gives you the greatest chance to be successful.

In the same boat as yall. Almost 100% sure that if I do choose to accept the offer to attend prep school that I will be attending NWP.
Well, it looks like I'll be there with you. After doing some research I'm almost positive I will be attending there as well.

My DS is attending Randolph Macon Academy in VA and has had a very success year academically and physically. He is thankful for this Prep Year and feels much more prepared than if he had gone straight to the Academy out of High School. He has since been appointed to the Academy as of February. You should be proud to be offered the Falcon Scholarship as they only give out 60.

Looks like I'll be seeing you there! NWP '17

My son went to NWP this past year. Great school and the Durbeck's are great people.

Our 2016er was also NWP prepster. Good program led by great people (the Durbecks). They helped prepare him for his AF experience. Now he and his fiancee (another 2016er) are finishing training as Intel officers at Goodfellow AFB.

SO if you do the Falcon Scholarship, you can still be appointed to another academy?
