Is a wave coming

I know for a fact that my DD's RC had a meeting yesterday afternoon with "the boss" where they were deciding on names, which included names for AOG, so a wave of sorts is on its way. She was told expect a phone call today at the earliest, Friday the latest.

The next big deadline is that all medical issues must be resolved by 15 April. If waivers are not approved by then, then waiver candidates are officially disqualified. Is it possible that more slots will open up after that date? The answer is yes. How many slots will open up? I dunno. Candidates who receive TWEs often will not return to the board, so you can't use this board to measure how many slots are left or how many candidates are left. There are some candidates who have received offers, but have not accepted yet. They have until 1 May to respond. So some slots may open up after that. Point is that as long as you do not have a TWE, you are technically still in it. No TWE means that, based on past experience, admissions feels you have a reasonable chance of gaining an appointment. Currently the process has moved so far that if your state has a candidate that declines a slot, it will not be returned to the state, but instead it will be made available to candidates nationwide. So if a candidate one slot ahead of you in your district has received an offer and then declines it, it does not mean you are next line and will receive the appointment.

My DD's wait is finally over. Phone call yesterday was told 99.9% no chance of direct appointment for class of 2021 but.....Phone call this morning....AOG Scholarship! MMI 2017-2018. USMA Class of 2022 Door is Open!!!
Who called you? The RC? Does an AOG scholarship ensure appointment next year?

Congrats to your DD!!! My DD is still waiting.....no mention of AOG, but we maintain hope for some good news.

RC called. It's a 99.999% chance. The appointed prepsters no longer compete against all the kids from their state. All they need is one nomination the next round and the spot is theirs...if I am correct. Assuming they don't fail their courses or do something stupid at prep. I'm still trying to weed through all the information, but as far as we understand it, this is the Willy Wonka golden ticket of West Point. The RC flat out told her that she was more than qualified for WP but that there weren't enough spots open for our district and we are a highly competitive district. That she wasn't #1 on the slot but that WP wanted her. What I'm not sure of is if the Academy has "reserved" spots for the same amount of AOG recepients that they send each year. So day they appointed 100 athlete and/or scholar prepsters for the 2017-2018 academic year, does WP reserve 100 appointments at WP for the Fall 2018 entry ( is that why the acceptance is 99.99%)?. Again...just still learning all I can...
