A momentary setback

As of yesterday the primary nominee for my slate is medically qualified and, given that the 150 off the NWL have already been selected, I suspect I will get the formal TWE within the next couple of days. No commissioning source would touch me so my next course of action will be to enlist in the National Guard and hopefully get them to pay for some of my college tuition whilst simultaneously serving my country--even if in a minor capacity. I desired West Point more than anything in the world, but it seems by dream will never come to fruition.

Just a word to those who have been rejected like myself: men are self made, the institution is more or less irrelevant. The fact that so many greats came from West Point is largely incidental; men with a certain drive, ambition, and intellect tend to congregate in one place.

It's important to remember that men like Ridgeway and Patton were unable to attend West Point immediately. Military giants of our era, most notibly Jack Keane, didn't attend USMA altogether. It isn't the end all be all.

Reapply next year and make them eat their rejection or be the best damn soldier you can be elsewhere and make them choke on your success.

It sucks, but service is the other side of the coin; it's not about what we can get, it's about what we can give.

Keep fighting.

"Why should you row a boat race? Why endure long months of pain in preparation for a fierce half-hour that will leave you all but dead? Is there anyone who would not go through all its costs and more, for the moment when anguish breaks into triumph – or even for the glory of having nobly lost? Is life less than a boat race? If a man will give all the blood in his body to win the one, will he not spend all the might of his soul to prevail in the other?”

Do you mean the 150 from the national pool because isn't that different than the nation wait list?? I imagine wait list is still possible for you in that case since the accept decline date isn't until 5/1 and i'm sure that not everyone has decided yet. Stay positive!

I have it on good authority that the 150 have already been selected. (My FFR provided all this info)

  1. FFR's do not have this information. They may speculate, but do not know.
  2. In any case, it is unlikely that all 150 have/will accept the appointment.
  3. There are still several hundred appointments beyond the 150. Although many go to class composition goals, not all do.
