As of yesterday the primary nominee for my slate is medically qualified and, given that the 150 off the NWL have already been selected, I suspect I will get the formal TWE within the next couple of days. No commissioning source would touch me so my next course of action will be to enlist in the National Guard and hopefully get them to pay for some of my college tuition whilst simultaneously serving my country--even if in a minor capacity. I desired West Point more than anything in the world, but it seems by dream will never come to fruition.
Just a word to those who have been rejected like myself: men are self made, the institution is more or less irrelevant. The fact that so many greats came from West Point is largely incidental; men with a certain drive, ambition, and intellect tend to congregate in one place.
It's important to remember that men like Ridgeway and Patton were unable to attend West Point immediately. Military giants of our era, most notibly Jack Keane, didn't attend USMA altogether. It isn't the end all be all.
Reapply next year and make them eat their rejection or be the best damn soldier you can be elsewhere and make them choke on your success.
It sucks, but service is the other side of the coin; it's not about what we can get, it's about what we can give.
