What clothing should I wear to canidate visit weekend it doesn't specifically say, should I wear a polo and khakis? What about athletic gear, will I need that at all?

For class most drags wear a polo and khakis. You do not want to be in anything less than that. I was in a leadership class last year and a Marine Colonel came in to speak to the class. There was two drags in the room, I wearing a polo and khakis and him wearing a t-shirt and shorts. The Colonel made eye contact with him and immediately walked over and commented on his lack of professional appearance. The trepidation in that candidates eyes was insane. Very rare, but just play it safe with a polo and khakis (short or long). You should have the opportunity to workout with the plebes so bring running shoes and athletic gear. Make sure if you are given the option you go workout. It if an important thing to experience if you want to get a full view of the academy and the midshipman certainly take note who is sleeping in when they are outside.
 
This is directly from the CVW confirmation email: "ATTIRE--Appropriate attire for the weekend will be tasteful, comfortable, casual clothes. Acceptable clothing includes jeans, shorts, polo shirts, blouses and sneakers. Students must wear closed toe shoes."

As for athletic gear, under the same email it says: "ITEMS TO BRING--At a minimum, you should bring an overnight kit consisting of a pillow, sheets/linens, a towel, toiletries, workout gear, swim wear, and at least one pair of pants. You may want to bring extra funds to cover the cost of souvenirs and other activities you may participate in while visiting the Academy."
 
I went to the last CVW and wore khakis, a button up, and sperrys to classes. I was the most dressed up of the drags in my company. Most people wore a nicer shirt, jeans, and sneakers, so wear what you feel best in. Depending on the company and your mid, you may have pt Friday morning. Definitely bring workout clothes though because Friday night I ended up playing basketball with the plebes. I didn't use my swimsuit, but better prepared than not. Also, bring a substantial blanket or a sleeping bag because you will most likely be on a cot by the window, and I lost sleep because I was freezing.

Hi, I will also be attending this week's CVW. I'm flying into BWI early in the morning on Thursday. I would be happy to meet up before check in. PM me if you are getting there early too.

@HunterElite I had the same thoughts as ktnatalk when I read your post, assuming you are driving yourself. Something to ask your CVW contact in Admissions about and not something to figure out on the fly on arrival. They may have an arrangement they could make. Ordinarily, it takes a DOD ID card to drive on and park on the Yard, unless you have a letter or some other document giving special permission.

Options in Annapolis include the Hillman Parking Garage, where you can leave cars overnight, for I estimate $20-$25/day. All street parking is either metered for two hours max or has time of day restrictions that allows stickered residents only overnight parking.

Of course, you could look for a parking lot somewhere in greater Annapolis and Uber to Gate 1, but that assumes a lot at, say, a strip mall, mall or shopping center is not monitored for cars parked too long.
 
Do you have this (only portion of) on your CVW confirmation email?

If you are driving, and the driver is a member of the military, you can drive onto the Yard with a valid military ID. If not, you must present a printed copy of this confirmation letter with a valid photo ID to drive on to the Naval Academy for drop-off and pick-up. Driving access is only valid at Gate 8 for the following times of your visit:

· Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

· Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

You may also access USNA by walking through the Visitors Access Center at Gate One. Please make sure you have a valid photo ID with you at all times during your visit. Directions to Annapolis are located at the following webpage: http://www.usna.edu/Visit/.

My dad is driving me and he is staying off the academy and we will walk there for CVW, sorry for the confusion
 
CVW was packed tonight. A lot of potential in that room. Good luck to everyone who is attending.
 
We were there too! Agree it was packed with standing room only in the back. They put us in the back 2 rows which I later found out were all the seniors and after the intro video we split off the the room across the main hall. I guess they/we were all either admitted to Academy or NAPS and trying to make final decision or accepted appointment and visiting for first time. The director of admissions himself addressed the relatively small group of around 12-15 families. Very impressed that the director himself would take the time out a very busy schedule I would imagine and come out to address the group. Only 1 person had received his/her PTR. Among other things, found interesting that he stated they lost 12 out of 1177 plebes during PS last year. Said very rare to have an injury during PS to the point would not be able to start fall AC which was reassuring. Highlighted some of the incredible academics including they had one year five Marshall/Rhodes/Truman scholars in 1 class. Incredible place!
 
Thanks for sharing, @vadad23. If you were referring to a retired male Navy Captain, that is the Dean of Admissions. The Director of Admissions is a female active duty Captain.

That maybe unique to USNA. From what I have been reading on the forums, USAFA seems to be the one sending cadets home quite easily due to injuries in the summer.

Did the Dean share the target number for class of 2021?
 
Ah yes...thanks for pointing out. It was the Dean, retired male Navy Captain.

A bit unsettling about the USAFA sending cadets home! He did say that the most common injuries by far were related to the sudden large increase in running....(e.g. shin splints).

Unfortunately, didn't think to ask RE: target size of class. I wonder if that is something they disclose before the class composition is completed?
 
At USNA you have to get really hurt badly to be sent home Plebe Summer. Its not in your in control, so don't stress over it. Even if they do, go home, get healthy, return the next year. We only had 1 person leave PS in my Platoon, he blew his knee out Day #2. He had surgery, went home, went to community college and was returned to USNA the next summer. He was given an LOA for the next class. The great part of being USNA, is water is a key part of your life. If you get hurt, your PT is now in the pool. It is worse then regular PT to dissuade those who want to get out of PT because they are being chit surfers. And yes most injuries tend to be overuse injuries or turning an ankle while on the E Course. Give it a few days rest, get back at it. Learning to identify being hurt vs. injured is a key part of being an officer and learning how to push yourself. Pushing through is great, but how much is it effecting leadership, decision making, etc? Its something every officer has to decide at a certain point. Am I 100% on the bridge today or leading my platoon for this assault? How is my decision making?
 
Self-evaluation is another benefit to sports that I think gets overlooked. Applying it how Hoops mentioned is a great reminder of what young people learn and have no idea.

DD had a significant injury during PS. The only reason we knew was receiving her letter asking for swimming goggles with prescription because she had to swim for her daily PT. She said in her letter she asked if she could call her parents while at the hospital, and the answer was no, unless it is a life-threatening injury. o_O

You see many Plebes in crutches and other injuries at parades during PS. There were so many last year they filled a whole section to the side at the parade field! Like Hoops said, being sent home due to injuries during PS at USNA is very unlikely.
