Hello all, what does one do if my ALO does not respond to my email? I need him for the tattoo form that needs to be completed prior to basic. Tomorrow completes 2 weeks since I emailed him. Thank you.

Hi!

PM me...I'll help you get in touch with the LOD. Or you can go online and find out who the LOD (Liaison Officer Director; the ALO commander) for your area is. That's the next person you should contact.

Have you tried calling your ALO?

I'd probably look at calling him if you have a contact number. Our first year ALO had a busy dental office and it took several attempts to reach him.

I have not tried calling. If he does not respond, I will go ahead and pm you. Thank you!

Same issue here...
DS assigned ALO did not have time to complete and submit the interview during the application process. It was agonizing watching DS wasted so much time trying to contact ALO. His LOD wasn't able to resolve the issue. Now DS has to go through the same ordeal again with the tattoo form. USAFA desperately needs to review the ALO process.

I doubt the process is the problem but there could be problems with individuals. These are generally volunteers with other jobs, lives, families and responsibilities. ALO is not the first among them. Nevertheless they should get back to folks in a fairly timely manner.

I understand that it is a volunteering job but it shouldn't take a month or two to return a call or email. If that is the case, then the ALO should consider given someone else an opportunity to potentially change lives for the deserving candidates with this position.

I think we're in violent agreement. Process is different from individual behavior though.

Being argumentative was NOT my intention as we all have better things to worry about. I will drop it here.

I could write a VERY long explanation of the ALO program, who ALO's are, how USAFA treats/trains/views ALO's, etc...etc...etc...but it'd get really long!

Suffice it to say; all ALO's are volunteers. MOST ALO's are reservists or retiree's and have other jobs that are their primary jobs. When I was a reservist ALO, I deployed more than once...made it a tad difficult to reach me at times. However, the ALO's responsibility is to ensure that their candidates are well taken care of.

That being said...if you truly can't reach the ALO...and time is short, contact the LOD. If the LOD, for some very untypical reason, is unavailable, then you go directly to USAFA admissions. But don't wait interminably! A reasonable delay is one thing; way out there is another.

And lastly...if totally unsure...PM me. We'll work it out.

DS had a similar experience with our Navy equivelant. The Captain in charge of our region stepped in and gave phenomenal support and copied the BGO on the email. Now we're getting more communication, but the answers are bare of detail.

Here's the news folks: when Flieger asks you to PM him, why do you continue to monkey around? Just PM Flieger!!!!!!!

And from the Fencersmother: please, do try to refrain from permanent body art. It's ugly after 40 (not especially attractive in younger years). Then, you won't have to worry about tracking down someone who is EXTREMELY busy to fill out forms for you because you felt the need to add ink where it doesn't belong.

There now. Have a nice day. :)

......and from Brovol: when you are in front of a judge to be sentenced on something stupid you did, take the hardware out of your face, and put big band aids over the facial tats. Just a tip from the "How to Avoid an Extra Ten Days in Jail Handbook". LOL. Of course I wouldn't actually do that; or would I? Impressions....

Thank you for your response. I do not have any permanent body art, but the academy requires a signature from my ALO even if I don't have any. Therefore, that is why I am just trying to get in contact with him for that signature. It is a requirement to complete prior to I- day.

I have to say our DD's ALO has been super, gave great advice on what to do next year after getting the TWE and on reapplying!

Update...a member of this forum PM'd me about their ALO and some issues trying to connect...

Flieger e-mail, phone call, and they're in contact. It was just a schedule issue.

No problem.

Seriously...if you have exhausted all avenues (and that means making an actual phone call...)...
