I'm second guessing my iPad choice- which iPad choice did you pick? Did you get the cellular version? I went with the wiFi and now I wish I would have gotten more feedback before picking.

I chose the cheapest one. My best friend is at West Point right now and he says he barely uses it. But maybe some other people might say it is quite useful.

Very interested in this post. My daughter is afraid of she picks the most expensive of all option that she will be left with no stipend. Any thoughts are welcome.

We spoke with our daughter about this quite a bit and finally decided to go with the cheaper one with no cellular. She chose the extra wifi package for social media/Netflix so she can use her iPad for that and can use FB messenger to text/ video call us ( we don't have Apple products at home). Her cell phone will only be used for calling as needed or if she travels home for the holidays and hopefully her room will have somewhat decent reception. When she was at SLE last year, she had pretty good reception everywhere she was and we have AT&T. She probably won't be calling that much anyhow. We don't want her to be penniless by the end of the month since part if her deposit is also coming out of her pay [emoji20].

I got the most expensive one without cellular. The price of the iPad has no bearing on how much you get paid monthly so I chose the highest one to ensure it stays as up-to-date as possible in terms of software.

Did you opt for 128 or 256 GB? I would like to go for the 128 and save $100, but I am worried that it will come with a lot of software pre-installed and there won't be much space left over.

Last year my son bought his, per the specs given, and brought it to R-day. It was cheaper that way. He did not get a cell plan version. Until a couple weeks ago, he never used it. The laptops are used for everything. He just started using the iPad for FaceTiming us, which is great, and it works very well.

I wouldn't overthink the iPad thing. Nor would I spend too much.

My DS chose the iPad with the most memory with cellular offered from WP. However, I would like to buy him a protective cover to be used with that iPad. Does any one know what type of iPad, is it Pro?

I read that the ipad is used to dl text books.
I am not certain all the things that cadets use the iPad for, but I know that my son, until a couple weeks ago, didn't use his at all. He used his laptop for everything. He did need the iPad a couple weeks ago for some assignment he had, and who knows what he might need it for in the future. And some kids have different classes than others; although mine has pretty much the standard Plebe schedule.

When we visited my son on Plebe parent weekend we sat in on his psychology class. There were several cadets who had an iPad, some with a laptop, and some with an old school notepad, so it is a "to each his/her own" type thing.

One of my interpreters is a grad student at Ohio State and she had an iPad Pro with the pencil. It was extremely useful with some apps - i.e. uploading class outlines and having the ability to write notes on the iPad. She could also download articles and highlight on the pad. My son hasn't chosen one yet and has ruled out cellular. He doesn't really use our iPads at home so he is on the fence. Are iPads mandatory?

Yes. I believe they are mandatory.

I got the 258GB. Don't worry too much about the iOS taking up much space, it'll be less than 10GB max. Also when I was on my overnight visit, both my Plebe and my upperclassmen friends used it for their military science classes along with other online textbooks.

I'll pass the information along. Looking forward to meeting the class of 2021!

17 and a butt days until graduation... Have yet to actively need the ipad in class. West Point wifi is fine, so no data plan is needed. The only the thing you really need to ask is if you want a smaller or larger screen for netflix/skype from bed instead of on a computer at your desk.

Do you get to keep the laptop/iPad after graduation?

I got the most expensive and not gonna lie it was worth it for me. I watch TV on it and it's like my second computer. First Semester, I didn't use it all but now it's with me everywhere. You don't really need it for class but its great for personal use. Don't get data, the wifi here for iPads works really well. You get to keep it all when you leave
