Will USNA allow me DS to take his own calculator on I-Day? He's been using a TI Inspire for the last 5 years. I think the functions are very different than the other calculators.

DS has a TI Nspire cas, so I get you! Jr just took his SAT with it and felt great about that section.

It's not going to be needed until after Plebe Summer. I would bring to PPW or mail it to him?

Thanks! Im mostly asking because he wants to use it to validate calculus.

The PTR said an inexpensive calculator. They will be taking more math placement tests when they get to USNA.

I believe the ti nspire cx-cas is issued to all plebes. They may want a basic calculator for other needs but as far as I understand when the academic year starts all plebes will be equipped with the top of the line from texas instruments.

He may want to keep whatever documents he has made on his nspire in the past 5 years, possibly transfer them to some online storage during the interim then copy them over to his new nspire when it is issued.

You would be correct that the nspire is very different from the other calculators, one of the most popular being the ti-84 plus. The nspire is generations ahead of other calculators, most notably being the "computer algebra system (CAS)" that can solve math unlike any other calculator. Additionally it has some high -level math functions useful for college students, such as derivatives/integrals of an equation.

I think it has been posted before...... they get everything they need on I day and/or prior to first day of classes. If you send the calculator with said plebe it will be taken. :)

The PTR said bring an inexpensive calculator. I'm erring on the side of caution and he'll have one.

That is something that has changed since my mid was a plebe . I would certainly not send an expensive one as you dont know what will end up happening to it and they do get a calculator issued to them for the AC year.
