Hi all, I received a 4 year NROTC scholarship to VMI. I am a little confused as to the scholarship activation. Since it is not activated until I get there, will I have to pay the tuition myself before I get there and then have the navy reimburse me? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

You need to check with the bursar's office for a definitive answer. DS did not have to pre-pay and the college was fine waiting on the NROTC scholarship funds. Some colleges require pre-payment and then they cut you a check when the NROTC money shows up. I don't know how VMI handles it, but I expect someone on here may know. In the meantime you could always check with the bursars office or the cadre at VMI which should also know.

You do not need to come up with the amount that the Army/Navy Scholarship will pay. You do need to come up with $12,512 plus $200 Security Deposit.

Fall Tuition Deadline: August 1
Spring Tuition Deadline: December 15

Army and Navy 4-year Scholarship covers the same amounts. Fed Loans can lesson the upfront cost and the TMS payment system through Afford.com can also help. You will also receive Book and Stipend money that will be paid directly to the Cadet/Rat only during the months they are in school. Summer programs pay at an ME-05? rate if they go on CORTRAMID, or summer cruise.

I called VMI the other day with a similar question. You need to call them yourself and not trust these numbers in the attachment, raw numbers are in the text.

When I had called I was told that my Army 4 year (in state) was worth approximately $78,000. How is that as that averages to $19500 a year, not ~$15000?

Probably need to add book money and Stipend to the Tuition and Fees which adds up to @ $16K. probably some other $$ that I am missing for the other $2K.
