New recruiting ad: Marines want women with ‘fighting spirit’

I saw it on Facebook today from three different people, so at least it's getting around.

And in the comment section some idiot also said they were "Mentally Unqualified". At a Quantico exercise a Marine Captain asked who was the sniper that killed all my people? Defending Force Commander told him it was my DD.

its PC and the continued pressure to put women in all military jobs. My view is that if they can meet the same standards as males, let them serve; when we start lowering standards just so women can qualifty for combat jobs and meet quotas its a huge mistake and travesty.

Can only imagine that a sniper has to be unemotional and dispassionate. Those qualities will serve your DD well throughout her professional life; especially when facing doubters.

Wish her all the best!

Since it was an exercise I'm going to hazard that she's not anything close to being a scout/sniper in her actual job.

Maybe instead of blindly labeling something "PC BS," think about it for a second. The Marine Corps has problems recruiting and retaining women. The Marine Corps just had a huge scandal that led many people to believe women are not respected and are treated as second class citizens. An ad targeting women, showing them as the focus of the ad instead of in the background, probably is not the worst PR move. And the Marine Corps is allll about PR moves.

To your second point: the featured Marine Officer (an actual Marine) in the ad is a logistics officer and is portrayed as a convoy commander, not as a grunt. This was a role not a small number of women found themselves in during the last few years, despite it being a "non-combat" MOS and many excelled.

There seems to be no shortage of Concerned Dads on this site who either never served or served when there were few women in uniform with strong opinions about women who serve. I'm over it. Do your thing, I'm going to keep training to go to war, actually serve my country, and not lose sleep over your bad opinions.

I certainly wasn't equating a training exercise with sitting for days, disguised as a rock in South Waziristan, waiting to squeeze off one round which absolutely has to be on target.

I was commenting that in any situation, in which one is "proving themselves", dispassionate and unemotional is a good thing; particularly when one's size, gender, race, etc. are outside the norm.

South Freedonia rocks are easier to disguise as ;)

I used to be of the opinion that we not lower standards for women. Then I saw how the Israeli military finds a job for anyone who wants to serve - even people with disabilities. Service to country in an armed and uniformed service could be much more if we wanted it to.
