DD collided with another last night at practice and now has a nasal fracture, according to emergency room, but we have to follow up with ENT in a few days and she was advised no athletics for time being. NROTC (scholarship) and College start in August, as she will be a freshman.

1. Does she have to notify anyone of the injury? If so, Who?
2. would this affect her eligibility? It is not major injury, but dampers her ability to work out.

Probably not until you report to your college. My guess is that by the fall, your DD will have obtained a full release. Hopefully @NavyNOLA will chime in to be sure.

Key questions:
  • Has your DD passed DoDMERB already?
  • Have you signed a contract yet?
The NROTC contract indicates you must disclose all medical issues that may affect your eligiblity at the time you sign the agreement. You then are expected to keep them informed of any changes to your health.

Here is a past copy of the contract:

She passed DODMERB already, and I don't think she signed that contract, as she has not even started at the school or unit yet. So who does she inform? She has appointment with ENT monday, so will not be doing anything until we know what their opinion is on it.

If she hasn't signed the contract, don't worry until she reports to her unit and then bring a full medical release.

When she arrives at her unit in the fall, she and all of her peers will be required to fill out a form that is essentially a medical update. You have to provide info on any medical issues that took place following your DODMERB appointments, up to your report date. The unit will want documentation in the event of anything significant, at which point they'll contact medical in order to ensure that student can still participate physically, as well as to make sure their scholarship can still be activated.

Thanks! You are always filled with knowledge!
