USNA What are some new 3/C Youngster Year "privileges"?

I know that the newly minted youngsters are not allowed to wear civilian clothes on liberty and that they do not have the same privileges that 2/C and 1/Cs have, but they are allowed to do slightly more things then plebes are permitted to do. My mid tells me almost nothing, so I come here to ask questions.
Are 3/Cs permitted to have a coffeemaker in their rooms, or a small popcorn popper for snacks? A grandparent is asking- they want to send their grandchild "something usable" as a small gift when he starts 3/C year in August.

Another site described 3/c year as" a year of being left alone " by the 2/Cs and 1/Cs.

It is a great year in terms of being left alone! They don't have to chop or do Plebe duties. More sleeping in. Not sure on current Plebe nap policy (I know it was discussed to change to allowing them) but they can sleep in the day if it wasn't allowed last year. They can wear unreg PT gear at night. Walk like a normal human in Bancroft. No limitations on radius for liberty. At one point they could wear civies if outside the radius on weekends? Current Mid will have to chime in if that is still allowed. More weekends. Also can't speak to what is allows in rooms... those rules have definitely changed since I was there. A lot more freedom in how their free time is used. Plebe year there is a lot of study time is study time. Where after Plebe Year there is more freedom to go get a lift or run in, go to Dahlgren to have pizza or Talk with buddies rather than allowing you to make decisions on how to use that time.

Date classmates, 2/c and 1/c.
No plebe knowledge or pro quizzes.
Sunday town liberty.
Not burdened with the leadership responsibilities of 1/c and 2/c but opportunities to start playing small roles in company.
Time to explore ECAs and other sports.
Enjoy getting into majors courses. Realizing when they finish youngster year, they are over the hump!

As to what they can have in their rooms, they should take responsibility and look it up. I am sure it is in MidRegs. Of course, there is always the "rate what you can skate" approach, seeing what you can get away with. Some companies are more lax than others.

One of the things DS got at the start of his 3/c year was a huge tv screen, and one of his roommates got a refrigerator. DS brought his game station after Christmas break - as Capt MJ posted, I agree that what is permitted varies between companies.

It a little of what you get to do.
Like wear spirit gear around the yard instead of only PT gear
But it seems to me it is more of what you no longer have to do.
Like chop, chow calls, use only plebe stairs, bulletin boards, plebe your cover...

I didn't stick around long enough for youngster privileges, but oh did I daydream about what I wouldn't have to do. Plebe year is really more inconvenient than relentlessly hard. You get used to chow calls, but having to wait until two minutes before formation to get from 4th deck to T-court is inconvenient. You get used to inspections, but having to change from summer blues to summer whites to get inspected, back to summer blues for a formation, and then into whiteworks if you had PE was inconvenient. Not having my entire daily life be about managing inconvenience was really, really appealing!

Not plebing your cover, not pulling your socks all the way up, or even getting to wear flip flops to run to the head... oh man, that felt like I had won the lottery.

Youngsters don't rate fridges.
