How many people get kicked out on R-day?

This is out of legitimate curiosity. How many people get the boot on R-day for different reasons, such as being over weight, or forgetting items on the packing list, or failing pull-ups, or even failing a drug test? I've seen similar threads, but none of them really answered the question.

I think typically ten or less, but I think the attrition is mostly kids deciding to opt out, rather than being booted. They get there and change there mind either immediately, or by the end of the day. Some just realize they are going to miss home, and quit.

I think the days of booting kids in large numbers based on strict compliance with the standards, unfortunately, may be history. My son was shocked and disappointed during Beast that a few conspicuous "slackers" were allowed to continue, despite falling behind continually, complaining, and failing to complete things everyone else did without complaint. He said also that the slackers came in every shape, color and gender, but that the vast majority, and almost all others, were impressive and outstanding. He left Beast, as he did when he finished his first year at West Point, loving the Corps of Cadets, and being a part of such a tremendous group. Frequently he raves about how impressive the men and women are.

Elias, I am on the WP Moms page and a couple of other groups. I know that moms and kids often worry about getting the boot on R-Day for being overweight or not in the best physical condition. I don't know anyone who was ever sent away for weight or low PT scores (like the pull up check). I am not saying, "Don't worry"--I am just saying...you have already been screened--your mind and body is in a slot that the Army needs to fill..they aren't going to have invested in you and send you away lightly.
However, show up with marijuana in your system...and you will disappear so quickly that no one will know what happened to you.

Almost everyone who appears for R-day knows what to expect and is pretty prepared. Most are in tremendous shape, and mentally tough. And, all of them distinguish themselves from their Naval Academy Plebe counterparts, by carrying their own bags (while the new USNA Mids are given cute wheeled carts so they don't have to carry those yucky bags of silly military stuff).

broval, I'm even going to have to hide my face in shame on that fiasco. Fill up a seabag, toss it over your shoulder and haul it into your new homeport like a sailor. Going to hate hearing the flack from this the rest of the year. The really bad part is my cadet is at USAFA, and I'll have to hear it from all sides. [emoji27]

Lol. Glad to hear you are going to just take the medicine. I know the carts aren't your idea, but we will punish you regardless, as we feal compelled. Go Army!

All I can think of to chant right now is Go Navy, Beat Army and we have the little carts to haul you off the field with. lol

Lol. Touche. But pillow fight was stopped because of blood and injuries. The carts are....well....carts.
Blood and injuries in a pillow fight sounds way worse than getting whacked over the head with a mini hand truck regardless. This may turn out to be a great year after all. [emoji3] Standby for heavy rolls.

Well, perhaps from the USNA perspective new plebes using rolling carts because the bags are too heavy is less embarrassing than too many bloody noses when cadets are playing in the hallway; but that is just perspective.

No. The little personalized hand trollues are worse.

One of the posts above noted the construction impeding bus access in the back of Alumni Hall. I can attest to that and the road being blocked off and construction lay down area taking up the road.

But - they could have brought the buses around front and loaded plebes and gear there - but again, they would have had to bring up a security cordon and extra staff to keep the crowds of family back watching for a glimpse of newly shaven or chopped Watertight or Hatchcover. I wouldn't have cared to wrestle those crazy-wheel carts over curbs and bumped-up bricks.

Sadly, poor 2021 is now tagged as Cart Class. Had a text from detailer sponsor mid last night, they were kicking themselves for not messing with the wheels. They should have just humped it all to Bancroft and learned early how to help each other.

In this constant exposure world we now live in, it makes me yearn for the times when a person could make a mistake/fail in front of others who were doing the same, with just themselves watching.

Oh Capt, I don't think anyone would be so harsh as to tag that class as the "cart class".

..... instead, USNA will be labeled "The Cart Academy". Lol.

You are right, there was construction & no bus. New plebes had to use carts to get around? Next time, Navy needs to do construction after I-Day. To be honest, pic of plebes pushing carts was funny;)
