Just wondering if DS's AP test scores could be a factor for his WCS?

SAT to date: 700 Reading, 790 Math.
but needs to retake to improve his essay score. HA! Poor kid.

2017 AP scores:
Calculus AB - 4 (really was bummed)
Physics 1 - 5 (really was shocked!)

Thanks. He is not worried about validating just wondering if USMA cares at all either way.

I'm not sure about the AP scores and it is a mystery how the WCS is totaled. There is an old Rand report floating around the net. My son had to sit through the ACT again for the essay also. It was a necessary thing but was rough as he was 5 weeks post shoulder surgery in a sling. He is now USMA Class of 2021. [emoji173]️

Get it done early. His scores look great!

Don't forget to take SAT subjects in Math 2 & Physics. I know it is not required but it looks good:)

SAs do not use AP scores for admissions; just for placement. This is buried somewhere in the admissions websites for at least one academy.

It might not hurt your MOC nomination application however; DS did have 'AP Scholar with Honor' award Junior year; not that it matters now but he will be 'with Distinction' after this last round of scores today. Be sure to list these awards if available by nomination packet submission time.

USMA took placement tests this week and AP scores are one consideration in addition to the on campus testing.

Hello I have a question because my DD had (5) AP taken already, 1 with :4 and the other 4 she get a 5 :), so that means she should put this in her application?, from where did you find the above information? thank you.

I'm sure it cant hurt. I just decided to send West Point my scores regardless of what itll do for my score. If it matters, then great. If not, its not like theyre gonna ban you from the school because you sent em. Id just send them if I were you. I think they use it for class placements plebe year so it'll help you if you get in, too.

By all means send the scores to the Academies. It cannot hurt.

As for nominations each MOC has their own checklist but if you have an AP Scholar award you can include this on the 'resume' that is usually part of the nomination application packet. Or just print the certificate and include it in the submission. Login to the AP website to view scores; next to the calendar year you will see the relevant Scholar award[s.] 2017 was not updated as scores were posted this week; might take a while but nomination apps are not normally due til Sept.

BTW DS received appointments to USMA and USAFA with good but not earth shattering AP scores. SAT is much much much more important.

From what I learned at SLE, the admissions office does not take SAT subject tests into consideration or even want you to submit them. Such subject scores, however, may be useful for securing a nomination if your MOC wants your academic profile.
