Are any of the parents groups or AOG doing any sort of fund raiser where they will hold up a sign for a cadet during the march? I want to have my DD see a sign from us during the march but we are in TX and cannot be there. We would definitely pay for someone to hold up a sign that we make though.

Yep. People can go and watch them march to Jacks Valley. You can hold up signs and be encouraging but there is not direct interaction with a particular cadet.

The Parent Liaison has indicated to park at Clune Arena and watch them pass by the field house. I'm on your side, Cerberi, and got the "you gotta be kidding me" eye roll from my DS when he heard that parents line up to watch the march to/from Jack's Valley.

Alright. Thanks. So does anyone know of a way to have a sign displayed for my daughter if I am not able to make it?

Both my Marine husband and I believe that it's good to attend the only the events ( I-DAY, A-DAY, Parents Weekend..) traditionally opened/encouraged for parents to attend. We don't want to distract or make him and other basic cadets more homesick.
We trust that he would be alright there.

This actually is an event that is open for the parents. The parents' liaison sent out information on how to attend the event and not be a distraction. I am really not asking who is going and what their opinion is on this event. I am just asking if anyone is doing a fund raiser for exhibiting signs.

General MacArthur's momma moved into the Thayer for all 4 years he was at USMA. Seems to have turned out well for him. We plan on going for march back to USMA. My job seems to impede me moving into the Thayer time wise and money wise. Hope you find someone for a sign. [emoji631]

Furthermore, if the Air Force didn't want parents there, they would keep it super secret.

As a cadet parent I can tell you its basically a waist of time, money and effort. Its a bit embarrassing to your cadet as well. I say this with the best of intentions. Its not summer camp and your cadet is not 12 anymore. They are truly beginning to learn how to live on their own and be responsible for themselves and to prove to you and everyone else that they can do it. Don't "cheat" them by taking every possible opportunity to inject yourself in every attempt at accomplishment. They know you love and miss them and are proud beyond explanation. Save your money, time and emotions for that tremendous opportunity to connect which is Family Weekend in Sept. Blessings to you all.

In my house, probably my Labrador from my son. He follows everyone else around looking for a spare spot to land.

I'll add from the cadet perspective that a sign would be tough to spot unless the basic is at the front or side of the formation, and that should the cadre spot it instead and make the connection to the basic, it would likely bring some extra (although primarily humorous) attention to the basic. As cadre we loved signs [emoji57]

:jump1: I'm rolling on the floor here. You all are too funny. Made my day! BTW, I think a fundraiser is great idea, but I don't know of anyone doing it.

To answer your question, I have never heard of any group offering to hold signs as a fundraiser.

If signs had been available for the class of '59 parents would have bought them back then too! We can't be there and I haven't heard of a fundraiser for this either. Maybe the Colorado group or some sponsors might be there? Doolie day out is right before so I will just send good luck wishes via text and be there for Aday. My DS informed me that he wasn't allowed to look around but he did spot us on the wall at swearing in!

I would say go and watch "march back " if you are local or, as my wife and I were, on vacation in Colorado before A-Day. It was worth the stop for us. There were probably a 100 or so people...most without signs including us. We knew approximately where our son was to be in formation and we spotted him, got a great smile and a wave. We learned later that he really liked the time in Jacks compared to the first few weeks of basic. We then headed on our way... have to say that Aday was really great if you get the chance or have the means to go.
