Indoctrination Day 1

USMMA Indoctrination Day 8
Indoctrination on July 5, 2017
The photographer's day was spent mostly on the water today. Wind not bad so the teams of Candidates on the Sonars got some good sailing in, especially in the afternoon.
In addition to learning to sail, Candidates also practiced Man Overboard drills. They looked pretty good in rescuing that "person."
Other Candidates practiced power boating skills. And from observations, it appeared that when they had a chance to drive the the boat, they did really well.
The Candidates were also over at SUNY Maritime for obstacle course training, which is basically physical skills. No photos from there as we stayed at USMMA all day.
Many thanks to the Trainers who are so helpful and welcoming! Also for their patience in explaining what Indoctrination is all about. They are an exceptional group of young men and women - and very good at what they do!
More photos tomorrow. Enjoy!

Not sure if this would be the right place to post this, but does anyone know if we're allowed to send Plebes pictures from home?

I've been sending pictures, printed within the letter, to my plebe candidate. Nothing incriminating, just pictures from Indoc and pictures of family etc.

Wait until after Indoc is over. Do not send anything that will bring unwanted attention to your plebe candidate.

Just saw your post! Hm...hope I haven't drawn unwanted attention to my plebe candidate! :director:

After July 20th IMHO. . .

Recognition is in April or May? I understand there is something going on during Parents Weekend and thought that was Acceptance, but I must be incorrect. :)

Trying to figure out when exactly the 2021 plebe candidates will be "dismissed" on Parent's Weekend (after football game? time?), and when they need to be back on campus. Trying to decide if we should venture home (to NJ) or just stick around...

This is from last year. Things change, but this might give you an idea. One hint though, at USMMA, the calendar dates, and times, etc., are the same as "The Code" in Pirates. "The code is more what you’d call ‘guidelines’ than actual rules".

And, there is probably a comment that watches and restrictions remain in effect. As a result, until that is lifted, if your DS/DD has watch, the watch is still required. So, when watch bills are issued, you may have DS check out when he pulls watch for that weekend.

Golfindad is absolutely right. While your DS/DD is at KP, you will always have to be flexible. The more precise your plans are, the less likely they will work out. For us on the west coast, one of the most frustrating parts about having a kid at KP is waiting and waiting to make plane reservations for our mid to come come on leave while watching the fares go up everyday. Or buying tickets early and then having to pay extra to change them because of last minute schedule changes at KP. If you start with the mindset that everything is subject to change, you will be much less frustrated. Semper gumbi.

Okay, that seriously made me laugh out loud. Arrrgh, matey!

Thanks for the '16 schedule. Very helpful. Totally understand the flexibility thing. I'm sure we'll learn more as the year progresses....
